Klitschko and the rest of the Eastern Euro champions will probably now fight a few unification fights against eachother and against the rising Euro contenders. Most title fights will now most likely be contested by white men which is a real shame as it seems respect is only gained for white athletes by beating Blacks.Look at Calzage,40 fights unbeaten, dominated the competition for years, but its only recently after brushing aside Lacy that he's now given due respect. With no leading Black contenders other than Peter the media and sport fans in general will assume the White domination is due wholly to the fact that blacks no longer compete. For this reason,i'm going to miss the likes of Bowe,Tyson,Holyfield as a Klitschko or future champion and hall of famer Povetkin needs this competition to gain the respect they deserve.Klitscko beating Maskaev will not be the same in the eyes of the media or public as him beating the aforementioned Black fighters.

Your analysis makes sense. However, the public should realize the reasonforfew black contenders is that white fighters have been beating them ---hence the dearth of blacks at the top.If the current spate of white fighters had not been on the scene, no doubt boxing would have plenty of blacks at the upper echelons. The problem is not a shortage of blacks, but an abundance of quality white fighters.

What we need now is a great black hope, someone the media can hype for a little while.

I read on another boxing message board that Oleg Maskaev defeated Vitali Klitschko in an amateur bout in USSR. There was some confusion whether it was a TKO or a stoppage due to injury. Anyone know if it's true?
