Looks like bare-knuckle brawler/internet "legend" Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson is fighting MMA now. He had his first fight vs. (former boxing HW champ) Ray Mercer this weekend/Saturday and won via Guillotine choke. Sherdog posts say he's fighting UFC HOF'r Tank Abbott in September. I hope/think Tank takes his head off. If Kimbo fights someone who's solid on the mat, he's toast. Fyi, below are some affiliated links...

Kimbo takes this fight going away. He will take down the Tank and out grapple him, or even KO him.

I thought it was interesting that Kimbo didn't try to stand and trade even a few punches with Mercer. Despite his 'legendary' status, I think Kimbo realized he wouldn't be able to withstand shots to the chin from a real fighter, even one as old as Mercer.

They're marketing Kimbo as a brawler, but he has been training MMA with Bas Rutten and working on his grappling. The average fan is going to pay $$$ to watch Kimbo 'fight' real brawlers, i.e. Mercer and Tank, only to watch Kimbo take them down and submit them. This will continue until the money starts to fall off, and only then will they put Kimbo up against someone with real skills.

Tank might be a colorful personality and MMA 'legend,' but IMO he was never that great in the cage. He was routinely beaten by guys with even mediocre skills. He's been submitted by the likes of Kimo and was KO'd by Paul Buentello in only :43 seconds. He doesn't even have a .500 win-loss record.

Kimbo slays him, either by KO or sub.

I'm afraid WS is right again. Tank is not getting any younger either. But who knows? It only takes one clean punch to change a fight.

Tank Abbot is the MMA version of Mercer(in boxing)at this point. When he tried a comeback in the UFC a few years back he didn't shed any fat and had no energy at all. If Kimbo has anything he will win. Prime Tank and slice would end up as road kill....

I don't think Tank will be as easy as Mercer to get down. Tank has some basic wrestling in his background and if he comes into the fight in decent shape he might beat Kimbo. In fact I imagine tank could probably take Kimbo down and I don't think Kimbo would fare very well with Tank on top of him punching him in the puss. I'll go with Tank one last time.

Below is the Kimbo vs. Ray Mercer fight. Mercer looked as if he had zero MMA training, while Kimbo had been training with Bas Rutten. Kimbo was just doing 101 stuff. My money's on Tank (IF Tank trains decently).

****Here's a clip of Kimbo calling out Tank, and ol' Tank wanting to go in the parking lot right then & there!

I don't know how many of you guys are aware of this, but their beloved Kimbo Slice already got his ass kicked in an underground street-fight against white man Sean Gannon, a South Boston cop. Go to youtube and search for "Kimbo Slice Sean Gannon", and you can see the fight there.

I think most of us here have seen that fight Groundfighter. The link to that fight was posted awile back and that's why I doubt Kimbo's ability to beat Tank.

Kimbo has been training since that fight, and IMO was somewhat of a wakeup call for him. Tank could have been a devasting force in MMA, but he never applied himself. He never trained, never conditioned, nothing. If he fights Kimbo the way he did Kimo or Buentello, he will be put to sleep or submitted. I hope he trains, loses some weight and gets a little cardio at least.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be rooting for Tank all the way. But do you guys really think they're setting this up to showcase Tank Abbott in anyway? They're picking him to lose. The only thing we can hope is that he brings the upset like so many other 'losers' recently.

This is a fight I could care less about. I have never been a fan of Tank Abbott. I swear everytime I have seen one of his fights it seems he ends up getting beat at his own game which is supposed to be slugging it out. I know he has won some fights, but it never seems that way to me. The only thing would be funny is if this Kimbo creep gets beat by a washed up old hack like Abbott.

I think Kimbo will probably beat him.
Kimbo is a a African American legend with the all important street cred. I believe they will use the Abbot fight to broadcast to the world about how dangerous Kimbo is.
In reality, as soon as Kimbo fights someone who is in the upper tier he will lose nasty.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Tank win by brutal KO. However looking at it realistically I just don't see it happening.

I've heard some people at the gym talking about how "Bad" Kimbo Slice is....I watched some of his U-tube videos...He fights bums & is slow but does seem to be strong & have some good power when he connects....

Tank used to be big, bulky, & strong...Now-a-days he just looks fat & sloppy....

Tank of 10yrs ago would have beaten up Kimbo for sure....I still think it'll be a good fight as both guys like to stand up & trade, although both are slow, I think Kimbo will win this one but all it takes is one good one from Tank & it could be lights out...

will root for tank but think Kimbo might get this one....

I don't think Kimbo needs to wait till he meets someone top tier just someone who's not a street bum to get his but kicked.

Heres what most people don't realize about this upcoming fight: Kimbo has NEVER faced anyone who will hit him as hard as Tank Abbott can and will hit him. All Tank needs is one good shot, and Kimbo goes nighty-night. Slice knows this. Not to mention, Kimbo can punch Tank dead in the face all night long, it doesn't matter, because there isn't a snowballs chance in HELL of him knocking Tank out. Tank's just too tough, and his head and neck are too strong.

Kimbo Slice fights idiots on the street. Scrubs, morons, half-ass bouncers, etc. Every now and then he fights someone with some boxing experience, but nothing major to brag about. Sean Gannon isn't the greatest fighter on the planet, but he whipped Slice's ass three times in one fight. lol. All Tank has to do is show up for the fight in fairly decent shape, avoid getting submitted, throw haymakers until King Kong drops like a gorilla turd from a jungle tree. If he does that, the majority of the battle is won right there. He knows he can drop Slice, and so does everyone else. He just needs to get his sh*t together and handle business with is training. Staying away from all the Stoli-Orange on the rocks wouldn't hurt either. lol.

Tank reminds me of Tony Twist (a hockey enforcer from the '90s who played for the Blues.) Twist was listed as 6'2", 250lbs. All Twist needed was one good shot to K.O. someone, and he was famous for sending players to the hospital. Tank is the same way. Same mentality, same demeanor, same goatee, same cinderblocks for fists.

Get him Tank. Hurt him bad. Make him pay for calling you out after the Mercer fight. Beat him until he collapses, spit in his face, and call him "the word". You will be a hero to all of us.Edited by: Ground Fighter

GF, wonderfully put...I love it! You're correct that IF Tank trains hard and cuts some flab, he can knock that "urban myth" into the next zip code. Here's to hoping Tank does just that!

Abbott has always seemed like a bully to me. The type of guy that would beat people up in bars for the fun of it. IN the beginning, he appeared as a tough guy and, many people(including me) thought there was something to the street tough image. That all changed when Vitor Belfort overwhelmed him with real boxing skills. Tank was outclassed and, knocked off his feet. So much for the myth that a bar thug was a potential world beater.

Kimbo would have made a good entry into the original UFC. He fits a recognizable stereotype. His striking skills seem good for a street brawler, but I'm interested in how he'd do against professional .
I remember readsing that Paul Buenetello had challenged him sometime back. That mike make for an interesting fight, although it probably wouldn't last for long and, would agasin blow away the myth that street brawlers can hand with the professionals.Edited by: Zrazys

I dunno, I'm rooting for Tank Abbott simply because he's Tank Abbott. even if he's nowhere near the best mmartist he is still entertaining to watch. He either wins hard or goes down hard and that's always something to see.

I have been arguing with the morons on youtube for MONTHS over this fight. Surprisingly, there are a lot of people who are rooting for Tank, and think Kimbo is all hype.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again:

If Tank shows up out-of-shape and drunk/hungover...the result won't be good. However, if he shows up in relatively respectable shape AND he takes this fight seriously, he'll win.

Many fight fans (a.k.a. caste-worshipping idiots) think that just because Kimbo has worked with Bas Rutten for a few weeks and trained in some MMA, that he can whoop anybody...wrong again people. I've seen Kimbo's training videos, and he is still unable to use his lower extremities (his legs) effectively. He still can't kick or tie anyone up with his legs and his wrestling skills are generic at best. If this fight goes to the ground (with an in-shape and prepared Tank Abbott), which it will, Kimbo is going to be in a lot of trouble. He's not used to getting punched in the face by people with his head and back in the ground. And lets face it people, there ain't no way in holy hell that Kimbo is going to "throw" Tank Abbott off of him once he mounts him. I don't care how "strong" people claim Kimbo is, he has nowhere near the raw power that Tank posseses.

Not to mention, Tank's right hand has a very vicious reputation, and its a lot harder than anything Kimbo's ever been hit with. All Tank needs is one or two good one's and...:::BOOM!:::...gorilla man is going to hit the ground harder than an anvil.

I'm predicting that Tank will emerge victorious in this one. I don't know much about his personal life or his political views, but I highly doubt that he is just going to sit back and let some street-thug animal fling him all around the octagon in front of millions of people. Something tells me that Tank knows the score, and I'm sure the racial-aspect of this fight has crossed his mind more than once, and he's probably had friends and fans tell him, "Come on Tank, don't lose to this n*gger". He's knows what he's got to do, I just hope he's putting in the work right now in the gym.

I'm waiting for his hyped-up black ass to step in the octagon with Fedor, Cro-Cop or Randy. After he gets his ass beaten into the emergency room, Kimbo's main sponser (a porn producer from Miami) and posse will turn on him faster than a rabbit gets f*cked.

Tank at cage rage fought an English kickboxer Gary Turner a tens times world kickboxing/muay thai champion and ki veteran who's now competing in mma and from what i,ve seen of the fight on youtube Tank put up a very good battle despite eventually losing. For the first two minutes he dominated Turner putting him on the defensive with the first big right he landed. He still posesses the fast hands despite his age and can swing them fists with the best of them.He blew his gas after two minutes of intense action which has really been the story throughout his fighting career allowing Turner who's probably now one of the best strikers in the heavy division to take over.Their was no shame in losing to Turner a seasoned world class kickboxer who would dispatch Rampage Jackson and Slice with ease in any striking encounter, at his age and after such a compelling showing. If Tank trained properly i would still favour him in this match.Slice dos'nt swing like Tank.

Well gentlemen, it looks like we'll finally get to see Tank square off against "Bimbo Lice". Hopefully Tank gets his tail in shape, trains submissions and wrestling (in addition to striking).Even if Tank's washed up and this is a marketing ploy/stunt, I'd still love to see tank KTFO the urban myth that is "Bimbo Lice"!

Slice to Take on Tank

Friday, January 04, 2008
by Sherdog.com Staff

Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (Pictures) will fight David "Tank" Abbott in the main event of a Feb. 16 EliteXC show in Miami, the promotion announced Friday.

Both fighters built reputations as street brawlers before turning to mixed martial arts.

Ferguson won his professional MMA debut in November, dispatching Bo Cantrell (Pictures) with punches after just 19 seconds. Abbott, 9-13-0, has won only one of seven fights since returning to the sport in 2003 after a stint in professional wrestling.

May or may not be true: but at least he's white. And, for that, on this site at least, we cheer.
