There was someone on this board asking if there were any white American boxers on the rise.Well there is one that I think could be pretty good and his name is Kelly Pavlik.He's from Youngstown,Ohio,also the home of former lightweight champ Ray"Boom Boom"Mancini,and fights as super-middleweight.He's coming off a strong performance against Dorian Beaupierre,whom he blew out in 3 rounds.Kelly has a typical story in the boxing business as white fighter who doesn't get any respect from a lot of people,like the media and fellow fighters who tried to bully him and make him lose confidence in himself.Pavlik never said so,but I'm sure those fighters were black,once again needing to protect their turf,their sport.Pavlik has hung in there and is ready to move up the ladder as he pacts a devastating punch on his tall lanky frame.He has 21 knockouts in 24 victories against no defeats.

My biggest concern about Pavlik has been his hand...He broke it a few years ago and his doctor told him to take some time off to let it heal properly and he didn't..He continued to fight and has had problems with it...I saw in a recent article in a boxing mag that he says that his hand is 100% now but I still have my concerns....Pavlik definitely has some punching power...
Peter at this stage of his carreer has fought slightly better guys then Pavlik. even though Peter has nothing to do with this discussion.And Lyahovich did'nt take care of anything Guinn lost to Barret the fight before.Gary said:

At neither 168 or 160 has Pavlik done ANYTHING.

My original post on Pavlik was in response to another members inquiry about any up and coming white American fighters.So I gave him his answer,I wasn't making any references to Pavlik being of championship caliber.Pavlik has potential,he has good power,whether or not he makes it or not is debatable.As far as making comparisons to Jeramain Taylor,there is none.Taylor has nice wins over the likes of Joppy,Marquez and Alex Bunema and I would not doubt that he beats Bernard Hopkins in their up-coming title-tilt.Same thing for Felix Sturm.He has good wins over Cherfi,Robert Frazier and should have gotten the decision over De La Hoya.So I'm not saying that he matches up well with these guys,just that I think he has a shot to make some noise,that's all.And please don't talk about amateur boxing as a measuring stick ona fighter because they're two different entities.Age-wise,Taylor and Sturm or both 26 and Pavlik 23,so Kelly has plenty of time.
I agree Pavlik has potential but i have been hearing about him for 2 years and he has yet to take a step up in competition he is a futur econtender Taylor and Sturm are better though today though i think Hopkins still beats them bothspeedster said:

in an argument in the basketball section where this guy was
using really obscene language, and I just brushed it off and
kept talking about basketball. I didn't even address the
obscene stuff. A couple years ago I would've gotten ticked off

Even though you I'm sure you wouldn't admit it, I'll bet you've learned a few things that have changed what you have thought to always be true - even in the smallest way. I guess SRR means Sugar Ray Robinson? As a welterweight that may be true,but not at middleweight.He won the 160 pound tin several times and lost it several times,and even though he was older and of course heavier at 160,he was slower and looked more vuln erable.Carlos Monzon and Marvin Hagler could have taken him and I think his namesake,Mr.Leonard could have beaten him at both welter and middle.Robinson only lost once at welter to guess who? I suppose you know the answer to that one,pugnus,but if you don't,the guy that beat him was white and that's no "Raging Bull."
Yes he lost to Lamotta when he was a Welter and Lamotta was a MW. We all know the results of the other five fightsspeedster said:
