Clark named to Pro Bowl as NFC's 'need player'

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Bears tight end Desmond Clark on Wednesday was selected to the Pro Bowl as the NFC's "need player." His inclusion gives the Bears seven Pro Bowlers, tying the Indianapolis Colts for the most in the NFL.

Desmond Clark led Bears tight ends with 24 receptions for 229 yards and 2 TDs in 2005.
Clark was initially voted as a third alternate to the Pro Bowl after catching 24 passes for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns this season. The seven-year veteran, who also possesss long-snapping ability, will join six teammates in Hawaii, the largest contingent of Bears players since seven went after the 1986 season.

What in the world is a "needs player" besides another invention for a black guy? I have never heard of this in the Pro-Bowl before. Has anyone else on this board?

229 yards and he makes the Pro Bowl??? The NFC is ridiculously weak at the tight end position.

This is very odd. Clark is a very ordinary player at best. I honestly can't remember the last time the Bears had a first-tier tight end of any race (by the time I was watching football, Ditka was playing for the Eagles).

Kleinsasser of the Vikings is twice the player Clark is.

I missed out on Ditka's Eagle days even though I'm a Delaware Valley native. By the time *I* started following football, Iron Mike was a Cowboy.

This must have been a political pick of some type..somebdy got a personal favor here. There are plenty of tight ends in the nfc better than this guy. Witten, shockey, mangum, stevens, kleinsasser, conwell, etc....

I think the "needs" is for a long snapper. Who else would do it?

yeah, i can think of at least 5 or 6 NFC TEs better than this washed up veteran...
