30 years and a day ago over 900 people "drank the kool-aid." There has been a lot of talk on this website about how clueless people are today. Does anyone believe that the same could happen today?

Yes I had forgotten. But you got to admit the number of suicides in that one pale next to Jonestown. One thing they both have in common was that the groups isolated themselves physically from society. The number of people at one time and together like they did, seeing people dying all around them, is what staggers me.
 
Here is a shocking fact: Jones killed more black people than the KKK. What did Jones do for a living? He was a community organizer!
 
I was a senior in high school when this happened and I recall how bizarre it all was.

What we did not know then was that Jonestown was a socialist "people's republic" in microcosm. It even had violent, self-criticism denounction sessions to wring the racism out of people and control them. The California media refused to critise Jim Jones or the People's Temple because they were "doing good work." Jones himself was a biracial, bisexual, atheist/Marxist control freak.
