John Parker Wilson

Former UGA QB DJ Shockley (black) had 2 turnovers (int & fumble) against the Rams, so hopefully former Bama QB John Parker Wilson (White) moves up the depth chart (behind "Matty Ice"). The Tide was very run/rush oriented, so Parker didn't get a plethora of passing opportunity, but has solid skill.

He got the name because apparantly the only beer he would drink in college was Natural Ice or "Natty Ice" for short, so his teammates began calling him Matty Ice as a joke and thats how he got the name. Pretty sick nickname i think

Well he hasn't really had a chance to display whether he is good or not, but i will agree there are more talented qbs out there.

Its not all about stats, he led alabama to be #1 in the nation for a few weeks and also he didnt have much opportunity

At this point it"s tough to say. I tend to disagree that he doesn't have what it takes. He's got decent size, 6'2", 218#, and he is the career passing leader at Alabama, ahead of Joe Willy and all of the other Alabama QB's over the years. So his stats are just fine, he has good mobility, I just think he needs the opportunity. I can take you for DAMN sure that he's better than Jamarcus Russell, Josh Freeman, Jason Campbell, or (insert favorite black quarterback name here). He's the clipboard holder on a good Falcons team behind two solid QB's, Matt Ryan and Chris Redman, so he's probably in a place that will be able to develop his skills and we'll find out. He's just a rookie, after all.

Jamarcus Russell is clearly a black quarterback. Jason Campbell is overrated, but he's been very solid at times. Campbell is more of a game manager though, who doesn't make many big throws down-field. If Josh McCown, David Carr and Kyle Boller aren't starting (after looking better these last few years in limited action in the pre-season and regular season), than Campbell shouldn't be starting either. Campbell has gotten way more time to lead his team then they've gotten in their careers. Freeman looked good in his first start. Although he only completed 14-31, he had 3 TDs to just 1 INT and led a great comeback in the 4th quarter and had an 86.1 QB rating.

I watched John Parker Wilson at Alabama and I think he doesn't have star potential. He was a great system player at Alabama, who could be a decent game manager in the NFL me's thinks.

Jason Campbell has the tools to be a solid quarterback, except for one -- he doesn't process information quickly enough, e.g. he can't read defenses and make the right throw often enough. So you end up with a pocket quarterback making five yard throws most of the time.

Processing information, reading defenses, and making the right throw is what Peyton Manning does so well. This week Manning is on the cover of SI as "the league's most cerebral quarterback."

Funny observation by Alex Linder over at the VNN forum, the blacker the first name of the QB the worse he is, the whiter the name, the better. Compare Jamarcus (Russell)and Tavarius (Jackson) to Warren (Moon) and Steve (McNair)! I'm sure there are many more.
