I haven't read through this entire thread, so maybe I missed you talk about the real problem with this teams offense: the WRs. Supposedly they have some of the best young talent at the position. Mike Williams is a joke right now, the guy can't catch a lick. Charles Rogers just cameback from a four-week drug suspension. *Yawn* Has this guy ever played 10 games? Roy Williams has not lived up to potential. Marcus Pollard the TE is leading the team in receiving, yet they're suppose to have one of the best young WR receiving corps in the league. It's hard to be a QB when your receivers don't catch and run the right routes.

The "Williams Sisters" combined totals for the season so far...27 catches for 368 yds. Steve Heiden the never mentioned TE of the Browns has 23 catches for 248. Heiden's YAC is 131 while Roy's(Serena?) is 47 out of his total of 187.

Guys, guys, it's not the receivers fault! It's the coach, the offensive strategy and the QB. Believe me I know, I hear it from the Detroit media and fans all the time. (Is this the Pathetic White Fans thread?)

With all due respect to the Vikings, the Lions are the most pathetic group of "professional" athletes I've ever seen. They're terrible on both sides of the ball; their woeful receivers are strutting prima donnas who deserve to be forced to work real jobs for a living (not that they would). Mariucci obviously runs a country club type atmosphere for the players, who in return just as obviously have no respect for him.

My favorite play was when the Falcons had a third and one, and Duckett gains four yards for the first down. The ref's mic picks up three or four Detroit "defenders" screaming for joy while they jumped around because they "stopped" Duckett. That speaks volumes about the selfishness and low IQs that permeates the NFL today.

Mine favorite was watching the replay of one of Garcia's interceptions intended for Mike Williams. Williams ran a hook as Garcia threw a fly. The replay showed Williams watching as the ball got intercepted and then barely jogging as the cornerback was picking up yards returning the interception. That play alone should cement Mike Williams on the bench - but it won't.
The "great" Detriot recievers were also racking up quite a number dropped balls. The official count at one point was 5 dropped balls in the first half!

They fired the coach, were have we heard that before? Did Marriuci
commit 18 penalties 2 weeks ago? Did he drop somewere in the
neighborhood of a dozen passes this week? No and No...What`s next a
black coach ? Never saw a coach run back a punt or make a tackle,(well
maybe one,Woody did clothes-line that bum from Baylor)

proclaimed reverends speaking out on my behalf. Second of all, hello to

At least when the Lions used to suck, they had star players you
could respect like Sanders and Spielman. Now, there's nothing
to recommend them.

Welcome to the board you Danged Yankee! (careful with the "d--n's, Colonel Reb gets a might upset!!) I'm a Red Wing's fan also. I can almost gaurentee they will hire a black coach, unless Jaron turns it around in the last few games.

I'll bet the Lionsdon't hire a black coach. I was actually starting to like the Lions when Morninweg (sp?) was head coach and they hadsigned Bill Schroeder and drafted Luke Staley and David Kircus.I think Matt Millen is less wed to the Caste System than most GMs. He made a huge mistake hiring Mariucci and now maybe, with his own job on the line,he'll steer the team in a less gangsta-friendly direction.

The despised Joey Harrington may be gone, but the real cancers on the team are still going strong. This is from draftdaddy on Rogers and Mike Williams:

Tom Kowalski of mlive.com writes Detroit Lions wide receivers Charles Rogers and Mike Williams, both former first round picks, have not impressed the new coaching staff....Rogers has been attending the workouts but the coaches have been underwhelmed by his attitude and focus and the rumors of his hard-partying lifestyle won't go away.

Williams, who is overweight and out of shape, attended the first four workouts and then took 10 days off before returning on Monday. That's not exactly the level of commitment the coaching staff is looking for....If the receivers don't turn up the intensity and production through training camp, they can forget about winning starting positions -- they'll be fighting for roster spots.

DD.com comment, Glenn Naughton:

They were talking at length a couple of days ago about Mike Williams on NFL radio and basically said that if he puts on any more weight, the Lions might move him to TE, and they were not being sarcastic either. The question of "why don't they just do it now" was even asked.

They then said that some of Williams' teammates came out and said during interviews done by network broadcasters in the days leading up to the games that Williams just didn't have the work ethic to be an NFL wide receiver.

I didn't see too much of the of Williams last season, but the couple of times I did see him he was dropping some easy passes (along with the other Detroit WRs), which makes me wonder just how good or bad Joey Harrington was if his three #1 picks were dropping perfectly thrown passes?

If the right player/coach gets their hands on Williams they might be able to light a fire under him, but as of now the Lions have to be worried about having taken another wide receiver in the first round who apparently has no work ethic and as a result, early forecast spells B-U-S-T. We'll know for sure in another season or two.

Hey Don, I saw that on DD too. 2 lazy number 1 picks are the reason that Harrington did not live up to his lofty status. I think given the right chance with good football players Harrington will prove he is a good QB. I really hope one of them gets cut...I would laugh my ass off. It seems Marinelli is not taking any crap. I heard Furrey is moving back to WR so I hope he takes the job from one of those 2 derelicts.

Yeah they dumped Joey. I don't care what anyone says he was a good guy and the reason he wasn't successful was because the Lions were often playing from behind and his backs and receivers were often zigging when they should have been zagging. I really hope Joey gets a chance somewhere. Hopefully someplace where the players act professional.

As far as my Lions are concerned now, I think we pick 10th in the draft. I can see Josh McCown being the starter and believe it or not I would draft Mike Haas and dump Williams and Rogers. At least with Haas you get someone who you will be able to depend on.

Hey Poacher I have been hearing the Lions and Chad Greenway's name connected...Greenway and Lehman would give the Lions the best young duo of LB's in the league. I hope McGraw gets a chance to start at safety for the Lions and Swancutt impresses Marinelli enough to get some playing time.

They also signed Furrey, right? Does he have a shot to play at safety also? What is their safety situation?

Martz is the offensive coordinator now and I think he might want Furrey as a receiver.

2 interceptions in first quarter but the first one was off a perfect throw that his receiver wobbled after it bounced off his chest, had another go at it but DB Dyson went for the ball and got it... second interception was mainly o-line fault, although Joey could have done a batter job with it...

go Joey, get the ball to Welker!

Joey has made a few mistakes in his two games but,the guy has shown he is a starter in this league he has too much class not to be.

It wont be in Miami though,They have annointed Culpepper into the saviour, the next Dan Marino
