I thought Dawejko showed some good skills, reflexes and defense. The problem is he's simply too fat to be a real heavyweight. He'd be a good fighter at cruiserweight if he had the discipline to control his weight.

For once Teddy got it right, " Joey blew it." Dawejko stopped fighting after the 5th round. You can't win when you do that (unless your Money Mayweather).
I think he gassed out. It's telling when a guy close to 20 years older than you is out working late in a fight. Like other posters have stated he needs to trim down to improve his cardio. He has enough butter on him to easily make 200 pounds. I suspect he works out hard but his diet in between fights is atrocious and he does little exercise. As Wlad has shown you need to exercise when you have down time if you want to keep your physique tight for a future bout.

Ps. Mansour who is about the age of Briggs shows that you can take on younger live opponents at 40+, but Briggs the blow hard would probably want no business with either fighter that fought tonight. If Wlad were to take on a senior citizen let it be Mansour or Tarver as they at least have beaten ESPN level fighters.

Good effort from Joey. He gave a good, honest effort.

It seemed his excess weight caused him to tire down the stretch. I also think he would have been well served having more pro fights before fighting a contender.

Very few fat guys can be fighters. If you aint in great shape you aint gonna win. I had low expectations for fat Joey going into this, but he was impressing me, then he simply blew it. Hes too dang fat.

Has Buddy ever NOT ruined a fighter? Every guy that dude trains ends up getting embarrassed.

The heavyweight division has had a history of fat guys being fringe contenders, but they could never get over the top.

Two Ton Tony Galento had Joe Louis hurt and then took a bad beating for the next few rounds. Buster Mathis never got beyond fringe contender status. Frans Botha always had gas tank issues and that was probably due to his build like Dawejko. There have been a few champions who got fat during their reign but I don't recall a fat challenger ever winning the lineal belt, Botha was able to beat Shulz for a splintered belt though(until he failed the post fight drug screen).

Ps. I forgot about George Foreman on his comeback and his win over Moorer. Also James Toney pulled a Botha against Ruiz and lost a splintered title in the lab.

I agree, Joey difinately showed signs of fatigue. He just started stepping to the right, switching to south-paw, but did not throw any significant punches. In other words, he was posing for the second half of the fight.

Briggs has a history of gassing as well. I think there was some issues with asthma, or steroids, or both.

In any case, Briggs would get dismantled and Tarver, due to his size would get knocked-out early if either gets in the ring with Wlad.
