Right now this kid is batting 3rd in the Twins line-up. He is gonna be a special player for years to come. He was the Twin's number 1 draft pick a few years back. Keep an eye on him because we'll definitely be hearing his name for years to come. He had a scholarship at Florida State to play quarterback, and was a very good basketball player who averaged 20 pts per game. I don't think they're many young kids who can already play at this level.

Mauer tied a national record by hitting homers in seven consecutive games. He batted .567 in 208 at-bats during his career, striking out just once. He won a gold medal with the Team USA Junior National Team at the world tournament in Taiwan in 1999 and was selected best hitter at the world tournament in Panama.

With his very short season with the Twins last year he batted .308 with, 33 hits 6 homers, and 17 RBI's in 35 games.
 
Mauer became the first catcher ever to lead the American League in batting in 2006, and as of Sunday he was leading the league in hitting again, though the batting race is very tight. Two batting crowns in three seasons would be quite a feat.
 
I saw a game against the Twins a few weeks ago and watched Mauer's swing. It is so smooth. That guy is a natural. He could hit .300 blindfolded with that swing.
 
Joe is finishing up another outstanding season. He`s such a good hitter-it almost looks easy for him.

He`s batting .328 with 9 HRs and 79 RBIs with a handful of games left.
 
Yahoo is ridiculous. Notice how many times the writer mention joe as a 'gawky white guy". I guess Joe has a secret hobby of rapping. If it was discovered Jimmy rollins played gutiar in a rock band would they mention he was just a black guy from Detroit, New York, wherever he is from. Thats okay, pretty soon a white boy in Eminem will take over the all time album sales passing up Tupac, guees white people can do anything blacks do you just cant say so publicly.

Considering he's playing one of the most difficult positions in sports, Mauer could go on to be the greatest player of all time.
 
ConsideringJoe has a good chance of winning his third batting title this season in just his fifth year in the majors, you might be on to something. Now that his power is blossoming, I'd like to see him move to first base fairly soon in order to prolong his career and let him concentrate on his prolific batting skills.
 
I hope Mauer stays behind the plate. Catcher is one of the positions that MLB is trying to turn totally hispanic or black. Let him stay there as a thorn in MLB's side.

What would the Twins do with their other superstar Justin Morneau? Would 3rd base be an option for Joe?

On one hand Joe could be the greatest hitting catcher ever, or he could extend his career by switching positions. Ultimately what is best for the team is probably a move away from him catching. As for Joe's legacy I'm not sure. If he has similar numbers to a fat home run hitting first baseman as a catcher, how could one not favor Joe for MVP voting?
 
I think Mauer will need bigger power numbers to be considered a better hitting catcher than Mike Piazza. Piazza's numbers are staggering for a catcher. A .308 lifetime BA. 427 HR's. I guess time will tell but Mauer certainly has the best shot of all the active catchers.

The writer also refers to 6'5'' Joe Maur as a "white boy." I remember during that unspeakable, racist pre-Civl Right's period where blacks were referred to as "boy." The climate has changed.


In all fairness, he did mention some pretty positive traits as well. Hey, if you want, you can email him and complain.

Hey, I guess that's something only non-whites do. What can I say, I guess white people have some pretty thick skin.
