Joe Mauer-Underrated

Joe Mauer is doing things no catcher in the history of baseball has ever done. No American League catcher had ever won a batting title (and only two catchers in Major League history ever had, none for over 60 years) before Mauer. He has won THREE batting titles in his six year career. Despite this, he is incredibly under publicized.

In a sport desperate for new stars, Mauer clearly fits the bill. However, the media really doesn't give him much attention. I wonder why? This guy should be THE face of Major League Baseball.

I don't know much about baseball but I posted something about Mauer getting a very nice contract a few weeks ago. That's obviously some recognition for his achievements.

Mauer is also an All American Kid, which is another reason he can't be the face of baseball. Too wholesome, too modest. He just doesn't have the "charisma" of the repulsive Manny Ramirez or the stature of Albert Pujols (who looks like an obvious juicer to me).

Jason Heyward, the Braves black rookie (current batting average: .254 with 23 strikeouts in 59 at bats) has gotten more publicity than Mauer this season.

This spring Hank Aaron was saying that Heyward would save baseball as a black superstar is needed.
