On Wednesday at 1 PM ET, the NFL Network is running an NFL Films piece, "Strange But True." There is a segment on Joe Don Looney.

The main character in Dan Jenkins' "Semi Tough," Billy Clyde Puckett, is based on Looney I have always thought. Jenkins draws Puckett as a white running back from Fort Worth as talented as Jim Brown, which sounds like what Looney would have been without the flakiness. Jenkins went to Paschal high school in Fort Worth, as did Looney many years later.

I think that Looney's life was adversely affected by the counterculture, with it's emphasis on drugs and it's opposition to traditional culture. The counterculture has ruined many lives.

So steroid use was around the early 60's in quiet avenues and tucked secretly away in gyms, it was created in the 30's hmmmm.
