Great article from espn of all places. Ian O'Conner, who is a New York based writer, touches on many of the disparaging "complements, like "descriptively" quick and other racial code language, that we discuss here. Of course he throws in the cliche Doug Williams reference and quotes but overall a great article that shows that Caste Football is making headway into the mainstream media.

Fredette out to break NBA stereotypes</font></div>

NEWARK -- In living color, Jimmer Fredette turned out to be a study in black and white, a prospect whose vertical leap was most valuable when he hurdled a stubborn stereotype and landed in the lottery of the NBA draft.

Fredette was the 10th pick of the Milwaukee Bucks before, voila, he became the 10th pick of the Sacramento Kings faster than he could stop on a dime and unleash his lethal J. If the New York Knicks wanted Fredette and all of his Glens Falls flair, they didn't want him enough to make the upstate kid's midtown dream come true.

So be it. The Knicks were better off taking a defensive-minded guard in Iman Shumpert, anyway, and Fredette didn't need his preferred destination -- Madison Square Garden -- to make the jump from Brigham Young superstar to NBA man of mystery and doubt.

Sinatra never sang much about Sacramento, and that's just fine.If Fredette can make it there, he can make it anywhere. But even if you don't care about the Kings, or whether Fredette will be a worthy complement to Tyreke Evans, there is a big-picture reason to root for Fredette to tilt a Western Conference scoreboard or two.

He could help change the unfortunate language of the NBA draft, one littered with racial code words that need to die a sudden and painful death.

"It's unfortunate that some people, whether it's the media or outside forces, will always look at athletes from a black and white standpoint," said Doug Williams, the man who helped crush the vile stereotype that African-Americans couldn't make for winning quarterbacks.

"When I was playing football, an African-American quarterback didn't have as much time to prove he can play. It's unfortunate that [Fredette] might have to deal with the same thing in the NBA."

Williams seemed to be a good guy to call Thursday, and not because he liked what he saw from Fredette when he watched BYU play on TV. Back in the day, before he led his Washington Redskins to a historic triumph over John Elway's Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl, Williams had to listen to small, ignorant minds question whether an African-American had the requisite leadership skills to play the sport's signature position.

"In the NFL the quarterback position was only for whites, regardless of what you did, and I think that's now changed," said Williams, the head coach at his alma mater, Grambling State. "But there was pressure on me, as a black quarterback, and I think unfortunately there will be pressure on this Fredette kid to put up good numbers as a rookie so that people don't question whether he can succeed in a sport where most of the great players have been African-American.

"For me, it's never been about color. I love how Tom Brady and Peyton Manning play, and I like Josh Freeman, too. The color of an athlete should never matter."

But it clearly mattered in the head-to-toe examination of Fredette conducted by executives, scouts, media analysts and fans. Fredette was compared to every white NBA guard, past and present, except Dickie McGuire, and was forever subjected to questions about his athleticism and foot speed.

When Fredette's physical skills impressed in pre-draft workouts, the BYU guard was forever said to be "surprisingly" athletic and "deceptively" quick. What, exactly, was surprising and deceptive about it?

Wouldn't any 6-foot-2 player capable of dropping 50 points on a major college opponent have to be pretty damn athletic and pretty damn quick to pull it off?

Asked Thursday night if he was frustrated by the scrutiny and the fact the stereotype of the athletically challenged white player was working against him, Fredette said, "I had a perception and it's something I had to go out and prove. People had to see that in order to believe it, and I thought I did a pretty good job of it in the workouts and that's why I think I was able to be picked in the top 10."

They had to see it to believe it, even if Fredette was the most explosive offensive force in the college game.

No, he doesn't land in the NBA without legitimate concerns about his skill set. Fredette didn't want to play defense at BYU any more than he wanted to plunge into the second round of the draft, and he has yet to show a visionary's touch when passing the ball from the point.

"Defensively," said one NBA talent evaluator, "I think Fredette is going to be a nightmare because the point guard is the hardest position in the league to cover. He can do everything else a guard needs to do, but if he can't stay in front of his man you can't have your team playing four against five all night."

Fredette has to spill a lot more blood, sweat and tears on defense, that much is clear. But one longtime African-American executive agreed that the doubts over Fredette's ability -- or lack thereof -- to survive and thrive in the NBA transcend his shortcomings on his least favorite side of the ball.

"People are confusing athleticism with defense," the executive said, "and sometimes that happens when you stereotype a white player."

The executive went on to liken Fredette's offensive skills to Tim Hardaway's, a refreshing break from the misguided comparisons of Fredette to Steve Kerr, J.J. Redick, Jason Kapono, you get the idea.

Sacramento is merely hoping Fredette can use the high lift on his perimeter shot and his Kemba Walker-like agility to emerge as a starter or, if not, one of the most dangerous sixth men in the league.

"We are an exciting team that likes to get up and down and score the basketball," Fredette said, "so it's a great fit."

He spoke after trading his Milwaukee cap for his Sacramento cap, after officially finding a home sweet home in the NBA.

"A great moment for me and my family," Fredette said.

Maybe it will be a great moment for all right-minded fans, black and white, if it helps change the unfortunate language of sports.

From ESPN's caste whores<div></div><div>

Hayes Davenport, Celtics Hub: Without even considering whether the Kings reached too high for Jimmer Fredette</font>, they royally screwed up by taking on John Salmons' unmovable contract to move down in the draft. This is the same John Salmons they shipped out in 2009 to create cap space, which they just blew on ... John Salmons, except now he's older and worse at basketball. Also, they reached too high for Jimmer.

<div ="phinline">
sac.gif
</div>

Dan Feldman, PistonPowered: The Kings. They made a dumb trade that added payroll without clearly upgrading talent -- and traded down. Then they drafted a player whose fan support dwarfs his ability.

In the long run, Jimmer won't sell tickets. Winning will. Can Jimmer help Sacramento win?

<div ="phinline">
sac.gif
</div>

Mark Haubner, The Painted Area: The Kings made a mind-boggling trade that made them worse and dropped them from No. 7 to No. 10. Sacramento would have been better off sitting at 7 and selecting one of the several prospects better than Jimmer Fredette at that slot. I'm generally pro-Jimmer, but the expectations for him seem to be growing too high.</div>

Well, the Kings drafted Demarcus Cousins, paid him over 3 million bucks, and managed to lose one more game than the previous year. It will be interesting to see if Jimmer can help them win some more games than they've been used to winning. I'd bet he can. He certainly won't be the locker room cancer that Cousins has been.

I like the Jimmer pick. I am not sold on someone like Brandon Knight.
Yeah, the Kings did lose more games, but Tyreke was injured so that may have something
to do with it. I think Jimmer gives them that outside shooter that they need.

Well, last year's number one pick had great stats and received a lot of hype, but John Wall
helped the Wizards to fewer wins than it had the year before.

I think several rookies can put up some nice stats next year, I just want to see who helps his team the most.
I think Jimmer will help a lot as will Ricky Rubio (will also play with the number one pick). I think Kanter will really
help in Utah and Jan Vesely will help in Washington. Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, and Brandon Knight should all be
solid rookies but will their teams win more games? The white rookies could help their teams more in the win column.

With the lockout over, and NBA teams getting ready to resume training camp soon I thought it would be a good time to revive this thread. Get some predictions on Jimmer rookie year, and some commentary on what it would take him to win rookie of the year. Last white man I can remember who won it off the top of my head was Mike Miller; and I would love to see Fredette do it too. I think that in order for him to win it he will have to average 18+ and about 6-7 assists, and lead the Kings to the playoffs. I think that he can do it if given enough minuets, but that is the question will he get those minuets? While I think there are better places he could have gone, I think that the Kings are not a bad fit for him. Really him and a handful of white players are the only reason I am not all that angry the lockout is over. Rubio in Minnesota, Buddinger in Huston, Haywood in Utah, and of course the Pacers. Go Jimmer.

Jimmer is off to a good start this season. With 19 points and 4 assts heading into the 4th quarter. Shooting poorly from the strip but shooting 70% from the field. Great first outing.

21 points in his first NBA preseason game. 7-11 from the field, including 4-6 from deep. Just wonder how long it will be before all the "experts" have to admit they were wrong about Jimmer.

I'd have to do some research, but I'm pretty sure the media clowns that hate Tebow are the same ones who said Jimmer can't play. Yeah, just googled "Colin Cowherd and Jimmer Fredette" - sure enough he was a big Fredette basher. Don't even need to go through the list of Jewish sportscasters to know their opinions...

None of us here have to ask what the knock on Jimmer is from the so called "expert" scouts. We all know he's a great scorer and no one is doubting that aspect of his game. He's supposedly too slow to play defense and has less athleticism than the average point guard. I sure hope he proves them wrong and puts together a nice season. I can't bear another talented white player going the way of Adam Morrison.

If his ball hog Kings teammates share the ball, he should score around 15 a night in my honest opinion. Jimmer is just too good of a shooter to go along with being a fantastic dribbler who can create his own shot. We shall see but that is a guard heavy team with guys who don't pass the ball very frequently. I hope I'm wrong. I'm still angry he didn't go to Utah!

Cultural marxist vermin Rick Reilly eating some crow:

http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/7379786/rick-reilly-jimmer-fredette-nba

He still manages to take a couple of shots at Jimmer, but overall, it's clearly an admission that he was wrong. The kid is good and can play, period.

Jimmer's rising popularity with the Kings (as mentioned in the piece), Tebow, Hillis last year, etc, I think clearly shows that despite being bombarded with decades of the myth of black athletic superiority propaganda, White fans have a great deal of hunger for White sports stars and will readily embrace them. Only the most brain-dead, unreformable DWFs will be haters, but there's a healthy majority who would much rather see one of their own do well at the highest levels of sports.

Rick Reilly's a bum. I remember said bum making fun of the all-white participants of the home run derby a couple of years back.

Don't forget his Mt. Rushmore of sports crap where he had to mention "so and so was a successful coach only because of his desire to first recruit black football players."

The guy's an ugly joke. Him and **** Vitale (No black coaches in SEC Football? That's a travesty!) are both worthless.

I agree that Jimmer is a great player who is extremely athletic. He has a high IQ and really understands the game. But him being 6 foot 3 could be problematic as most White players who are this height are forced to play point guard. But Blacks who are the same height are allowed to ball hog like Allen "we're talking about practice" Iverson, Brandon "I'm the thug from Compton" Jennings, Derrick "I am MVP because I am black" Rose, and Dwyane "Fake Air Jordan" Wade.

Jimmer's averaging 9.4 pts and 2.5 assists in 25 min per game. That's pretty productive, however I don't see how he can get more minutes. With Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton each getting 35 minutes per game, there are no minutes left. Why did the Kings draft Jimmer? They already had Tyeke Evans, a lottery pick point guard; and, Marcus Thornton, a second year shooting guard averaging 20 pts per game. Barring injury, Jimmer has no chance to crack the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.

Not only that, but as I noted in the NBA thread, Sacto just canned coach Westphal at the behest of disgruntled forward/center DeMarcus Cousins. Now the team has Keith Smart as coach/best buddy to all of the affletes. Expect to see Jimmer marginalized as much as possible.

This is another egrarious example of "stacking". My term for the caste inspired marginalizing of white talent at black positions. We've seen it here a lot. Gerhart goes to back up Peterson, Hester to back up Thomlinson, etc. It's a good way to for the NFL/NBA to say "see we drafted the white guy and paid him well" and then on the other hand not give him a chance to play so after a few years the fans have moved on and are all agog with the latest bruva coming out of college.

I think it's done to keep the racial peace. Especially in basketball. It's one thing for a 7.0" guy to come to amerika and get some PT and publicity but an average sized (relatively speaking) white amerikan to come into the league and start putting up points, well the bruthas can't let that happen. Dat game belong to dem. Fredette needs to go a 'white' team or hope for the Fredette curse to happen!

jaxvid, this is exactly right and I was thinking the exact same thing. I'd also like to add that leading up to the draft, all the "experts" were saying at best Jimmer could be a good scorer, off the bench. Now he's on a team with 2 established players ahead of him so this will be exactly his role. The average DWF figured this is the "best he could be" anyway so they won't call into question why he's a journeyman in 5 or 6 years. I hope this doesn't happen to Jimmer but this is the path they have designed for him.

I think Jimmer will get the JJ Red**** treatment for a year or 2, but he is alot more talented than JJ. He will star, just not right away. We can only hope one of Amerika's supa affelets gets hurt or imprisoned soon, which is not out of the realm of possiblity.

Here's an interview with Jimmer that I found while reading the USA Today rag in the hotel lobby this morning. He gave very good answers that indicate that he is far from "overwhelmed" like the pundits would have us believe now that he is in the NBA with supa-dupa-affletes. One question/answer was interesting, I'm sure that most of you here at CF would answer the question the same.....

Jimmer's had 20, 13, and 19 points in his last 3 games. He's getting more minutes with Marcus Thornton's injury.

I wonder how many points he would be averaging if he started all year long and got 35+ minutes per game. I'm guessing he would be averaging around 15 points a game which would be outstanding for a rookie. Yet they continue to say that he is in a slump and really struggling. Keep fueling the fire for Jimmer. The kid can play period! Wake up basketball sheeple!

Jimmer got a DNP-coach's decision last night. Kings Coach Keith Smart stated he "did not want to disrupt the rhythm of the game" by inserting Fredette.

Once again, we see a white college star player in a situation where he is not being allowed to play. A legitimate business would not spend a high draft pick, and the accompanying guaranteed millions of dollars, on an employee they didn't intend to use. The NBA does this routinely, when white players are #1 draft picks.

Adam Morrison, JJ Redick, Joe Alexander, now Fredette. Even Tyler Hansborough, despite playing at an elite level last season when finally given a chance through injuries, is back at his designated place- on the bench. How stupid can the fan base be, not to question this? Compare these high scoring white players to Stephen Curry, whose black father enabled him to be handed an instant starting assignment, and as many shots as he wants to fling at the basket each game. Meanwhile, non of the white scorers are allowed to do what they do best- score. Their shots are expressly limited.

It's really amazing that Kevin Love has managed to succeed, although of course he still somehow wasn't voted as an all-star starter.

Here's another typical, but different example of the caste system.
Jeremy Lin is an Asian American point guard for the Knicks.
He led his SF Bay Area team to the California HS State title.
Yet, wasn't recruited.
So he went to Harvard and had a great career. But wasn't drafted.
Now, because of injuries, and incompetence by other players, he has reluctantly been given a chance to play.
Guess what? 28 pts tonight. 25 points on Saturday.
Obviously the guy has talent, but nobody would give him a chance to play.....because he's not black.
And that is the caste system. If you're not black, you're not good.
Coaches, scouts, GMs, fans, etc. judging athletes on race. To them race equals athletic ability.
It really continues to amaze me that coaches and scouts don't understand that so called 'athleticism' cannot replace skill. Natural 'talent' is always chosen over developed talent, i.e., skill. It's disgusting.
Anyway, I know some of you don't care about an Asian guy making it in the NBA, but to me, he's still a caste buster, and that's a good thing!
