This kid is amazing. He is like another JJ Reddick. I think he will be even better at the next level. He is alot like a Gilbert Arenas in his ability to score at will for a little guard and he can shoot like an all star. Very good off the dribble and he is so fast. He just needs the chance to start. I would love to see the Jazz dump their point guard and have this kid be there for the next ten years. That would make my day.

I Caught the 'Killers' Show in Vegas Last Night...

With a nod to the Las Vegas-based band, BYU's two senior guards were a deadly duo last night at the Thomas & Mack Center. Jimmer Fredette and Jackson Emery combined for 13 three-pointers and 61 points in BYU's 89-77 win at UNLV.

Yes, Jimmer Fredette saw what Tre'von Willis said about him leading up to the game, about Jimmer "supposedly" being the best player in the Mountain West.

Fredette saw it, heard about it, was reminded of it. Not that it was the sole reason Jimmer went for 39, but Tre', did you really want to give the "baby-faced assassin" another bullet in his motivation chamber?

(by the way, word is Willis went off on his teammates in the UNLV locker room, claiming to have been the only UNLV player to have effectively guarded Fredette in the game. Willis' own 4/16 shooting was evidently not factored into his tirade)

BYU keeps rising up in the rankings every week that goes by, right now they are at #14 in one poll, it's not out of the question that BYU could vault all the way up to at least a #2 seed by the time the tournamanent starts.

As JC alluded to, Jimmer finished last night with 47 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. He finished 2 points shy of the BYU record which he set last season against Arizona.

Jimmer is currently leading the country in scoring at 26.1 ppg. Kemba Walker is 2nd at 25.3 ppg. If BYU can finish the season top 10 and UConn falls off, I think Jimmer has a shot to take home the National Player of the Year award.

As for the NBA, I've seen a mock that had him in the late 1st but most have him going early 2nd. If he goes to the right team, I think he could become a star.

Jimmer Fredette is just a scoring machine. The guy cannot be guarded. He will explode on any team any where at any time! You can only contain him for so long. What a stud! The kid just breaks peoples ankles. He has so many moves and he can shoot the lights out. He is by far the most exciting player in college basketball. Please don't let him get screwed like Adam Morrison and JJ Reddick have. Let him get drafted in the lottery and start from day one. He could very well be the next John Stockton. Jimmer is a better scorer but will have to work on his passing a little at the next level. I love this kid!

I watched the end of the highlights where they showed him missing a dunk.
Oh well. 6 for 9 on threes.
He should be a top five pick if I were drafting.
If I were the T Wolves I would trade down, and draft Fredette and trade Rubio and try to get a good shooting guard for him. Rubio to the Clippers for Kaman and Bledsoe would work for both sides. T Wolves have a franchise point guard who can shoot the lights out (what you need in the triangle offense), a beast in Kevin Love, a very good center in Kaman plus a good defensive center in Darko (can also go twin towers). A great scorer in Beasley at the three with the athletic Wes Johnson at the two. Then you have three quick guards off the bench with Ridnour, Flynn, and Bledsoe. They could start Darko for defense and bring Kaman off the bench for offense. They could add a defensive back up small forward in the off season. Perhaps Shane Battier. That would be a great team.

The Clippers could then draft Singler or Jan Vessley at small forward, to go with a three guard rotation of Rubio (passing, defense, size), Eric Gordon (scoring, deep threat, power, hops), and Baron Davis (scoring, passing, size, power) to go with Blake Griffin (beast) and DeAndre Johnson (shot blocking, dunking). Aminu would be the sixth man and they have cheap backup power forwards to bring off the bench. That would be a very fun team to watch and they would have star power with Griffin, Singler, Eric Gordon, Rubio, and Baron Davis. Great core and all they would need would be a back up 2 guard with size and a shot and a back up center who can give you 15 minutes a night off the bench. Perhaps they roll the dice and pick up Greg Oden in the off season. That could be a championship team one day.

Almost every white in the NBA that is a guard is supposedly too slow. Kirk Hinrich is probably the lone exception as he gets some credit for his athleticism. Steve Nash, JJ Redick, Luke Ridnour, and the list can go on forever.

He's ranked as the 7th best point guard for this draft despite having superior numbers to the rest of the affletes before him. Two of the affletes listed ahead of him aren't even shooting 40%. Only Kryrie Irving has a better field goal percentage than Jimmer.

I don't care what any scouts or so called experts say. I agree with Frank Layden. This kid is a lottery pick period! He is leading a top 10 team and is the leading scorer in the nation. How can he be so average a player when opposing defenses are doing everything in their game plan to stop him and yet Jimmer still lights up every team for almost 30 points a night! He has done it against all levels of competition. He single handedly helped BYU beat the U of A Wildcats two years in a row now. That is a team that went to the tournament 25 consecutive years. The kid can play and no one is going to be able to stop him. Even on an off night, Fredette will drop 20 points. As for his speed, he is fast off the dribble but because of his lack of melanin, he will never get credit for what he does. This kid is going to be an NBA All Star period. He just needs to go to the right team!

Here is another reason the scouts love to say about Jimmer. He plays in the Mountain West Conference which according to these "experts" is a weak conference. They used the same excuse for Trent Plaistad and Keith Van Horn when he was coming out of college.

it's obvious that the meaning of "he's not the greatest athlete" really means "he is a White player." anyone with even a modicum of intelligence should point out thestupidity of saying an elite collegiate athlete isn't athletic.
that being said, Fredette isn't aspecial leaper. he is, however, very quick ... both off the dribble and laterally. he also has exceptional vision, a quick release on his jumper,and impressive strength for a guard(he likely can throw up double the weight that Kyrie Irving could on any lift in the weight room). he has shoulders like a linebacker, for crying out loud. the problem is that none of these outstanding athletic attributes matter when found in a White player ... orperhaps i shouldsay, when found in "not a great athlete."

Great post Jimmy. Fredette is amazing. BYU needs to be ready though for a touch schedule ahead. They have TCU on Tuesday which should be an easy win. After that though they have back to back games with 2 of the top 3 teams in the conference. Colorado State and San Diego State. In fact, San Diego State is 19-0 on the season. They need to be ready and focused. I think Jimmer thrives on the pressure of these games. I'm curious to see how this pans out. BYU might move into the top 5 teams in the nation with 3 more wins. I love this team and I love Fredette! What a player.

I just don't get why people are viewing this guy as a bench/role player, though. Someone who has an offensive game like that and has the ability to get others involved should have a major role on offense.

There are TONS of guys with his athleticism at the next level. I mean, it's not like this guy isn't athletic. He has a good handle, can beat his defender in numerous ways, has a full arsenal of moves and shots, and can even dunk when the moment calls for it.

The kid has it all. So what if he's not the best defender in the world? The name of his game is shooting and passing. Nash is a weak defender, and there's plenty of other NBA guards that never play defense. I'm so sick of defense being the thing that keeps elite scorers like Morrison, Redick, and possibly Fredette off the court. It's a weak excuse in a league where maybe 4-5 teams even try to play elite defense.

Damn ESPN Sportscenter talking head cutting on Jimmer Fredette today because he didn't dunk on a breakaway last night. The last time I checked, the bombs he regularly launches from 25 feet are worth 3 points, and you get no style points added onto a 2-point dunk.

Fredette has 21 points at halftime tonight,in a stellar all-around performance thus far. he's 7-7 from the free throw line, 6-11 from the floor, and has chipped in 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. the only blemish is his 2 turnovers. it looks like it'll be another big-time scoring effort for Jimmer unless something weird happens in the second half.

as a caveat, i'd like to also mention Fredette's backcourt mate Kyle Collinsworth. his first half performance was also exemplary. he has 13 points on 6-8 shooting, snagged 3 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists with 0 turnovers. ifCollinsworth, an athletic 6-6 freshman two-guard,can continue to play at a high level (alongside Fredette), BYU's postseason chances will be greatly improved. last year's Utah Gatorade Player of the Year, Collinsworth provides a long, slashing, athletic wing player who can also create off the dribble, both for himself and his teammates. as a frosh, he has played erratically at times, but hopefully tonight's performance thus far is a hint of things to come.
