Two sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that Sloan reacted angrily during Wednesday night's home loss when guardDeron Williamscalled a play on the floor that was different from the one Sloan called from the sideline.

That led to an emotional dispute at halftime, sources said, which was followed by Sloan's closed-door meeting with O'Connor after the game.

Sloan was asked after Wednesday's game if there was need for a shake-up.

"I don't think there's any great need for panic," he said. "Kevin is always evaluating what we can do or what someone wants to do with another team and that's part of the business. Every day that's part of his job."

But one source stressed that the play-calling flap was just one incident among a number of flare-ups in recent weeks, indicating Sloan's relationship with Williams has been deteriorating.

The 68-year-old Sloan is the longest-tenured head coach in any of the four major sports. Although he signed an extension for next season, he said that he would not make a decision about returning to the team until after the 2010-11 season was complete.

Sucks to lose a relatively White friendly coach in any sport. Hope this doesn't impact the development of Gordon Hayward. I think the new coach is a brotha so probably not good for Gordon.

This is sad news. I knew from his first year in SLC that Williams would be trouble down the line, one way or the other. Sorry to see Jerry Sloan go.

This was clearly a "racial" situation with Coach Sloan "losing the lockerroom" as the Jazz became a more and more black team. Williams obviously played the black card and Sloan was not backed up by management and he said screw everybody. I would love to see the Utah fans turn on Williams at this point....but even the Mormons are probably so brainwashed that they will side with the petulant affrolete.....too sad.

I'm not sure that it is racism why Williams and Sloan clashed. It's probably work ethic. If you look at Williams he is fat for a point guard. His off season conditioning or eating habits aren't professional. Sloan is old school and doesn't like loafers. One thing about Stockton and Malone they played hard all day and every game. From what have seen from Mulatto's raised by the White side of their family they seem to respect Whites. Unlike Mulatto's that are multi-generational who consider themselves Black and can carry emotional baggage because of their obvious White ancestry. Edited by: white is right

One thing about Sloan is he coached the way he played. He was hard nosed gritty/borderline dirty defender for the Chicago Bulls in the 60's through early 70's. Picture a White Michael Cooper type. He wants his players to have that work ethic. I recall when the flaky closeted homosexual John Ameche played for Sloan he basically ran him off the team because of his lack of work ethic.

Maybe the flak the Jazz have taken for years forbeing "too White" factors into not supporting Sloan over Williams.

The Pacers have darkened up this season after Larry Bird was being called a "racist" last year. The Houston Astros all of a sudden had an influx of hispanics on their roster and a black manager after they were criticized by the Cultural Marxists for being too White (even when they were winning division titles and going to the World Series). The Indianapolis Colts have backtracked somewhat in recent seasons.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Packers and Patriots have less Whites starting and on their roster next season. It wouldn't make sense on the surface and seems counter-intuitive, but there's no reward in this upside-down society for being "too White," while being coal black is applauded asshowing open-mindedness and being the epitome of "diversity."

Sloan should get an award or a straight jacket, he's 68 years old and has been dealing with ghetto thugs for most of his life (although less then most coaches cause he was in Utah). At that age it's time to enjoy himself. TNB gets another one.

<div>No doubt about this. Look at Gonzaga and Butler at the college level in basketball? They got too white and too successful, so things had to change. The Jazz, much like the Celtics in the 1980's, had become the "too white team" in the NBA. And, much like the Celtics in the Bird/McHale era, I'm sure Jazz ownership felt some pressure to change that image to appease the media. But it will backfire, because Derron Williams' types want nothing to do with Utah in the long term -- they'll just stay until they are free agents, give minimal effort and then leave.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I remember when Keith Olbermann was at ESPN he used to complain about race from time to time -- who even knew he was such a radical lefty then?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I recall him publicly blasting the 1994 Phillies (on Sport Center) for only having one non-white starter (Benito Santiago?). The Phil's had almost won a World Series in 1993 and no one complianed, but once they slipped a small bit due to age the diversity hounds were after them with vigor. Even some Baseball America clown named Peter Schmuck (his real name) used to write the Phillies were too white all the time. Their racial makeup soon changed, as did their win total -- they tanked in the standings.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I also remember when MLB retired #42 to honor the first black player ever. Olbermann blasted the Dodgers (also on Sport Center) for only having 1 African American player on the team (backup OF Wayne Kirby). What Olbermann did not mention, however, was the team was majority non-white that year -- loaded with asian, black latin players, ect....all that "diversity" still didn't matter, as the Dodgers felt pressure to change....soon after Mike Piazza, and several notable whites, disappeared in trades for the likes of Gary Sheffield, Charles Johnson, Bobby Bonilla, Eddie Murray and other American born  blacks.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In more recent years, the marxist media in Toronto used to mockingly refer to J.P. Ricciardi's (GM) team as the "White Jays" *** and called for more "Latin talent". Since Ricciardi left (now the Mets, after a stint on ESPN), the team has become a little more "diverse", but still has many excellent white prospects J.P. drafted and signed.</div>

Yes the Blue Jays were criticized by a liberal paper called the Toronto Star. It was a total hack job. I think I said this before that the Blue Jays needed the diversity of the Village People to appease the paper. Ie a Native American a gay Black S+M freak etc... The real reason why the Blue Jays became less diverse is they and the Dodgers lost their near monopoly on Dominican players. If Utah is going like this on purpose this will back fire on them because the urban Black player won't sign with Utah unless they are desperate to stay in the league. I was actually surprised to see that Utah only had 3 White players on their roster(4 if you include the injured Okur).Edited by: white is right

Yes that's why it went from a Blue Jay monopoly to the Blue Jays never having a Latino unless he was a cast off or a long shot prospect. I know the Raptors have done this too. As even some fairly educated Black players have whined about their children learning French and the metric system and Toronto Blacks being "different". Also the lack of Sole Food was another complaint...

Sloan was the coach of the Jazz for around 20 years I believe. He did an excellent job but as always, affletes must get their ways.
'
As far as Kirilenko, I'm very disappointed in him. He's very athletic but he's only averaging 11 ppg. That's unacceptable. Even his shot blocking skills have seem to left him.

I know J.P. Ricciardi is a Billy Beane guy and they like to draft and search players from college they find alot of value there.
Jerry Sloan should take his money and go enjoy his grandkids they'll listen to everything he says instead of wasting his time developing players who will end up being degenerates once their playing days are over.

I think it's pretty obvious what is taking place. Any time a brutha on a team has an issue with his white coach the other bruthas join in. The end result is the coach is forced to resign or fired. Owners will do almost anything to appease the affletes on the team.

In a Jazz loss to Phoenix yesterday, Al Jefferson was 2-14 from the field.

Well stated JV! The "classic" Jazz teams w/ Stockton, Eaton & (later) Hornacek were some of my favorites.

Sloan should coach in college. He would be a God. He could also recruit the players he wanted.

Yeah I could definitely see him turning a college team into a powerhouse and further add to his resume.. I hope he condsiders it.
