EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Tight end Jeremy Shockey and linebacker Reggie Torbor will sit out the New York Giants' game at Oakland on Saturday because of injury.


Both players were hurt in last week's 35-20 loss to Washington. Shockey injured his ankle, and Torbor aggravated a hamstring injury. Neither practiced this week, and both had been listed as questionable as recently as Thursday.

Well I hate to sound trite again, but I told you guys " a thousand yard
year is not going to happen in this galaxy" with regard to Jeremy
Shockey. It's been 19 years or longer and we will not see it
again. Lets not be naive, we are on this site because of
irrefutable and exaustive evidence of a discriminatory " Caste" system
in the NFL. A power athlete, professional and at the top of his
game would/could play, but the powers that be have nullified Shockeys's
opportunity at 1000 yards.

Let's not get carried away. Jason Witten would have had 1,000 yards just last season except he dropped a pass at the end of the game. One thousand yards is very rare for any tight end, the fact that guys like Witten and Shockey are flirting with it is a good sign. Also, if Todd Heap can stay healthy for an entire season and if Kyle Boller and the Ravens passing game continues to improve, he could reach 1,000. So might Chris Cooley.


From an earlier post: Jason Witten needed 97 yards going into the last game of '04 to reach 1,000. He was up to 981, then dropped a pass on the last play of the game that would have put him over the magic number.

It is easy to get depressed by news like this, but I think your thinking is off a little, Renaissance Man. We have several great white TE's who are emerging and no amount of pressure will keep all of them from hitting 1,000. As I said before, it won't be 19 more years. It will likely be within two years.

I hope you guys are right. I'm just very disappointed that
Shockey did not make it. I realize that we have a good crop of
young and very talented tight ends. Again I wish them all the

i totally agree... GInats are resting Shockey which is a right thing to do if he's even slightly injured... no need to aggravate things and they need him big time for playoffs

To get a 1000 yards would have been great,but really that doesn't diminish what Shockey has accomplished this year and in his career.If he's off by 109 yards or 1 we all know what he's about and so does the league.Bill Shroeder a few years ago just missed a 1000 which would have been cool since he would have had two 1000 yard season going for him,but one yard either way isn't going to change a solid pass-catcher from a good one to a bad one.

Well, he finishes the year with 65 Receptions, 891 yards and 7 touchdowns (career high). A solid year for the shock man.

The Associated Press reports the aftereffects of Jeremy Shockey's concussion have reduced his motor skills. The injury was diagnosed as a stage 1, mild concussion but Shockey says he's now sensitive to light, vomiting, and having headaches and trouble sleeping. He'll be held out of practices indefinitely.

Its definitely not a good sign if he is nauseated and lights hurt his eyes. If you remember, thats what was happening to Troy Aikman and Steve Young - right before they retired.

While in full uniform, Shockey ran several 100-yard sprints and completed a series of agility drills. Shockey then caught passes for 10 minutes thrown by assistant athletic trainer Steve Kennelly.

I saw videotape of the play, and Will Demps (who was defending Shockey) was whooping it up with his black defensive teammates while Shockey lay on the ground. I wonder how common it is to celebrate the apparent injuring of teammates during training camp. . .

I noticed at the start of the game when players state their name and what college they came from - Shockey said "the university of Miami" (unlike all the other former Canes who now say "the U") I guess Shockey's not "down with the struggle"

Yeah, I liked the comment by Eli about Shockey. "I like to get Shockey the ball early because the crowd gets into it early." Hmm, I wonder why? We know!

Shockey can have a 1,000 yard receiving year if they will give him the ball and he stays healthy.

more sources confirm that report, good news for Jeremy and Kevin Boss, bad news for Eric Johnson... good luck in NO Jeremy!!! he can easily be as produtive as jason Witten last season, provided he stays healthy. also young Kevin Boss can have a breakthrough season, 700 yards and 7 scores a high possibility.
