The media is treating the death of James Brown as an event of national importance. Maybe he'll join plagiarist/whoremonger MLK as the only Americans to have a national holiday in their honor (just joking, I think).

Like so many black celebrities, Brown had a criminal record. In 1988 he was charged with domestic abuse. Later that year, he brandished a shotgun at an insurance meeting, demanding to know who had used his personal toilet. That led to the infamous interstate police chase, which ended only when police shot out the front tires of his jeep. In 1989 he was arrested for possession of PCP, assault, and possession of weapons. In 2002, a Los Angeles jury (probably similar in composition to O.J.'s) cleared him in a $2 million sexual harassment suit brought by a female employee.

Among Brown's Top 10 hits were: "Licking Stick -- Licking Stick," "Say It Loud -- I"m Black and I'm Proud," "Ain't It Funky Now," "Get Up (I Feel Like a Sex Machine)," "Hot Pants," "Make It Funky," "Soul Power," "I Got a Bag of My Own," "King Heroin," "My Thang," and "Stone to the Bone."

It says a lot about the "evolution" of America that James Brown will be memoralized with a conquering hero's treatment. But then againthis will all be seen as quaint and innnocent several decades from now, when the likes of Snoop Dog and Suge Knight begin to die from old age (assuming they make it to old age) and their deaths are given the same superstar treatment and importance. What are you talking about Don? I can't remember ANY of that stuff happening. Are you sure you didn't make all that up? Isn't it racist to talk about any bad things that a famous black person has done?

All I know is that he is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was the "Godfather of Soul" He is a true hero not just to black Americans but all Americans because he was such a wonderful person and an inspiration to all people that hope to grow up and get old enough to abuse PCP at age 70.

A true American hero.

Brown was arrested last week in South Carolina on a domestic violence charge involving 33-year-old Tomi Rae Brown.
The 70-year-old Godfather of Soul allegedly pushed the woman to the floor during an argument in a bedroom of their Beech Island, S.C., home and threatened to kill her while holding a chair over her, according to an Aiken County sheriff's report.

To me James Brown (except for the domestic abuse issue),is the colorful neighbour who makes for great stories at parties or card games. Or better yet jokes about him at these same functions..

All solid posts above,

It is amazing the number of people who do not know about browns transgressions, and blatant disrespect for the law.Anyone who brings these topics up are met with glazed over eyes, and an open mouth stare!

Why, you cant say these things about "the godfather of soul" !

All the above is true, but keep in mind that he was an avid Reagan
supporter, and he refused any attempts from black suppremist groups to
support their cause. And he worked harder in one concert than MLK,
Sharpton, X, and Jessie Jackson did in they're lives.

One ofthe local fishwraps here, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, gave roughly equal coverage on the front page today about the death of former president Gerald Ford,as far as placement and prominence, as it did yesterdayabout James Brown's death. This country is very, very messed up.

Pres. Ford will be quitetly laid to rest somewhere. James Brown is having a huge public burial, first in Harlem (free crack for everyone) then in some Southern city and maybe Bush will honor him with a place next to Rose Parks in the rotunda.

Rev. Sharpton and Jackson have been ulogizing him like a hero to "his people", what they should be saying is look at this pathetic creature, you'll end up like him if you don't change your ways. This ridiculous tendancy of the black leadership to lionize scum and the white media's complicity in the whole farce is one of the reasons the black community is such a cesspool. When the hell are some decent black leaders going to speak up?

How can anyone expect white people of a decent nature to see this all going on and not expect them to think the worst of those people.

So, let me get this straight, Jax. James Brown is so "Supa-bad", that he gets TWO funerals? lol. Whats going to happen? Is he going to rise up from the dead during the first burial in a PCP-induced frenzy, then shoot up on dope, over-dose, and then be buried again?

A warning to all female funeral-attendees: Don't stand too close to the casket because bitch-slapping may occur, as his domestic-violence record so vividly displays.

These are the same morons that camped out at the Neverland ranch and claimed "the bearded lady"(Micheal Jackson)didn't diddle the boy he was on trial for. The same type of crowd..

The Combined Federal Campaign will now have a James Brown charity to which Federal workers can contribute. To encourage underpriviledged inner city youth to begin stellar entertainment careers as did James Brown

Black Catholics in Baltimore wanted Mr. Brown to be canonized

I support him being "canonized," if that means putting him in a canon and shooting him into the city dump.

He was an absolute genius when it came to lyrics.

I feel good
I knew that I would
So good, so good, I got you

I feel nice
like sugar and spice
...

This musical inspiration should not only be canonized but have his own church and gospel.

In all fairness, their wasn't much to talk about when it came to Ford's presidency except for the old SNL skits where he fell down. Plus, he was a white all-american.
As with Byron White, the media doesn't publicize his athleticism now, nor do they talk about a decline in well roundedness. Edited by: Freedom

This is too funny.

Gunfire landed a 70-year-old Atmore man in jail and a 62-year-old man in the hospital Monday after the two got into a heated argument over the height of recently deceased soul musician James Brown, police said.

Atmore police said David James Brooks Jr. walked into the police station and told officers he had been shot. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment.

Minutes later, Dan Gulley Jr. arrived at the station, saying he had fired the gunshot, officers said Tuesday

Investigators learned that the two men had been at a friend's house on Stallworth Street when they argued about just how tall James Brown was.

...Witnesses told police that after Gulley and Brooks' argument escalated, Gulley began shooting at Brooks, hitting him twice in the abdomen.

Brooks, already wounded, went to his vehicle, got a gun and returned fire at Gulley, missing him, according to a police news release.

Gulley was arrested by Atmore Police officers and charged with assault. He remained in Escambia County Jail on Tuesday. Brooks remained in the hospital on Tuesday, officers said. Information regarding his condition was not available.

Atmore officers said the shooting happened shortly after noon Monday and that alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Police recovered two small-caliber handguns, investigators said.

I note that Brown is still not buried. I guess everyone is waiting for him to rise from the dead.

lol...Yes, his followers probably still are waiting. See my above post for Brown's supposed "rising from the dead in a PCP-induced frenzy".
