Jake Machacek, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound running back from Apple Valley (MN) Eastview, is having one of the top rushing years in Minnesota state history. Machacek has lead the Lightning to a 10-1 start as they defeated Farmington Friday 35-28 to win the Section 1, Class 5A title. They will face uyndefeated Stillwater (11-0) Friday at home.

Jake Machacek had 25 carries for 115 yards, with 78 coming in the second half in their 35-28 win over Farmington Friday. He scored on a three-yard touchdown run and threw a five yard touchdown pass.

Machacek has 291 carries for 2,241 yards (7.7 yards per carry with 33 touchdowns. He has rushed for more than 100 yards in every game but one against Eden Prairie, when he was knocked out of the game with an injury after 18 carries for 51 yards. Machacek has rushed for more than 200 yards six times and has scored two or more touchdowns in nine games.

Machacek had 30 carries for 267 yards and four touchdowns in their season opener against Jefferson. He had 32 carries for 245 yards with three scores versus Lakeville South.

Machacek finished with 26 carries for 252 yards and three touchdowns against Apple Valley and had 28 carries for 246 yards and two touchdowns versus Eagan.

Machacek finished with 23 carries for 288 yards and three touchdowns against Owatonna in the first round of the playoffs and had 46 carries for 309 yards and five touchdowns versus Rochester Century in the second round of the playoffs. He also had four rashing touchdowns versus Bloomington Kennedy and five against Burnsville.

Golden Sports.Net caught up with Mackacek to find out the latest on his recruitment.

Obviously, you've had a terrific season. What things did you work on during the offseason to prepare for this year?

"Mainly lifting. I'm in track and field, so that helps with speed. We had a good strength program this summer, so going to that every day this summer. I'm involved with hockey and stuff, so a lot of other training. Not too many breaks."

You were 5-5 last season, so you expected to be good, but are you guys pleasantly surprised with your play this season?

"Me, personally, I knew that we were going to do better than we did last year. Maybe not 9-1 (now 10-1), I did not know that, but I thought that we had a shot of doing as good as we are doing right now."

What schools are you hearing from right now?

"Nothing to heavy as of right now. I'd have to say the heaviest school that has been recruiting me is St. Cloud, but other than that just a few Division II schools like Augustana, Mankato and Duluth. No D1's."

Have you heard from many D1 schools?

"I've gotten letters from like Northern Iowa and North Dakota, but that is about it."

Have you been able to make any college games?

"I went to a St. Cloud game, but that was just with family and friends. I went up there again to actually meet the coaches and stuff, so I've actually been to two St. Cloud games, but that is about it for games."

You are a multi-sport athlete. You are the captain of the hockey team and run track. With so many kids now specializing in just one sport, does that help you that you that you play other sports such as track which helps with your speed and quickness?

"Hockey, you get the leg muscles from the skating. Hockey does not have too much to do with it, but I enjoy hockey. I'd have to say track and field is the one that mainly helps me with speed and agility stuff."

What events are you planning on running in track?

"Track and field, I'm still not 100% if I'm going to be running it this year. It all depends if I am going to go to college and train. If I continue to do track. I'll be running the 4 x 100 and maybe the 100, Definitely, indoors, I'll be running the 55 yard dash."

What about hockey?

"In hockey, I am a right wing."

You are putting up amazing numbers. You are a 80 to 90% run team and opposing defenses know you are going to run, yet you are still up to put up big numbers. Do that give you pride in not only yourself, but in a very talented offensive line?

"It give me a little bit of a confidence booster. They do know that we are running, but the offensive line, if you make your blocks, they should not be able to stop it. Whatever works, works I guess."

Have you heard from Minnesota at all? They have three former Lightning players on their roster. Have they talked to you at all?

"I have not received one letter or talked to Minnesota."

Is that a little frustrating that teams wonder about your size, but yet you are putting up amazing numbers in a Lake Conference that is one of the better conferences in the state. Is it a little frustrating that you are not getting more looks?

"I would not say that it is exactly frustrating right now, but maybe when the season is over and I have not heard from big schools or D1-AA, at least, that might get a little bit frustrating. There is nothing I can really do about it, I guess."

Does that even give you a little bit more of a motivating factor that you say "Hey, I'm as good as some of these other players?

"It does. It gives you a little chip on the shoulder. In order to get to that level, you have to play good, so that is one of my motivators. I always think about that.It gets me going a little bit harder."

It should be a show on Outside the Lines on ESPN.Of course they probably wouldn't admit that white high school running backs every where in this country get screwed time after time.It really pisses me off!

Someone tell Jake to spray paint himself black before the next game. I guarantee you that he would have alot for interest immediately. "Who's the new speedster on the team with all that athleticism and speed?" Its a shame that he doesnt get the proper accolades from the big schools. Does anyone know how to contact him and encourage him to send out highlight reels in hopes of receiving an offer. Just mark the tape as Jimtavias Machece and make sure the tapes are grainy. Maybe the coaches will believe he is a high yellow and come visiting.

Jimtavias Machece. That's funny. Maybe a slight spelling change to Jayk, or Jayque would get him a few more looks. Seriously, I bet it would.

Anyway, I've noticed that his size is fairly common for a white I-AA or Div II back. He'll probably end up at one of those levels.

Hey Voice check this RB out from De La Salle. Here is a guy who is physically smaller than Machacek, and plays in a division and conference much weaker than the one Machacek plays in, and I am willing to bet hisrushing yardage isnt any better. However the article says he is piling up scholarship offers. Hmmmnnnn? could it be pigmentation? I bet we see Jake at North or South Dakota next year.

I haven't brought that up as an example but I have followed this closely.

This kid plays in 2A which is greatly inferior level. He has scholarship offers from Iowa State and other DI schools. It is a joke that Jake doesn't get the same offers.

It is definitely pigmentation.

BonnieBlue.

What do you mean similar stature? Most backs are about this size 5'11' and 200 in High School. Then they put on 15 to 20 pounds of muscle in college.

Heck, Emmitt Smith(NFL all time leading rusher) was exactly same size and speed as Machachek. 5'10 and 216(pro playing weight)

KJV1,

I hope it is North Dakota or South Dakota STATE at the very least. Then he at least get 1-AA which is much higher level than DII.

It is still a disgrace but I would feel better for the kid.

Jake seems to have a lot of fans. They should work on a plan to have Jake put together a great demo tape, and have his coaches push some I-A schools to give him a chance, and use any other influence they can think of.

Eastview loses in State Semifinals to Wayzata

140 yards on 20 carries with 1 TD

YTD

2650 Yards

342 Carries

37 TD's

7.74 Yards per carry

The best season by far in large school class in MN-EVER!!

NO DI or DI-AA offers. I am going to write to local sportwriters, who most of the time act like they have such courage to hold local pro athletes accountable

We will see how tough they are! Anybody interested in joining the fun? Tomorrow, I will post email addresses of who we can write to.

I will join the fun. The University of MN should be offering this kid a full ride, but they would rather take rucruiting trips down south to find a brotha with a criminal record and lesser ability.

He will be lucky to get a DI-AA offer at this rate. If he was black, we would be talking Notre Dame or Michigan etc!!!!!!!!

I haven't heard anything here in the papers about D1 for Jake.

We will only find out around signing day February 8

This will be a disgrace if he isn't playing DI football next year somewhere

It's official..Jake is headed to DII St Cloud State..The young white man breaks all time large school record in MN and doesn't get DI offer...not even 1-AA

http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/sports/13760145.htm

Break the all time DII record Jake. Todd Bouman went to St Cloud State and he is in the NFL, but then again he didn't play in a rock solid caste position either..

What a crock! This kid should be somewhere he'll get noticed and used to his full potential. Well, the big schools will lose for not picking him, one way or the other.
