A couple of Irish fighters scored nice wins the other night.Heavyweight Kevin McBride pummeled Montiy into submission in the 5th round which could lead to a match with Mike Tyson.I don't think McBride is all that, but since Tyson has degressed so much who knows what can happen. The more intriguing story irs fellow Irishman John Duddy. This 160 pounder fought his first live opponent in Leonard Pierre and scored a most impressive 1:23 TKO.Big left hooks did the job for Duddy in this one. After a solid amateur career Duddy is now 9-0 with 9 KO's and 7 of those knockouts have come in the first round. This guy can really punch and it would be worth keeping an eye on him.

I would love to see McBride knock out Tyson.Mike has
always had a hatred of anyone white fighter and takes
pleasure in knocking them out.He doesn't realize that
there are alot better fighters that Peter McNeely.I
would love to see Klitschko end his career once and for
all by knocking the crap out of Tyson!

mcbride is not that good he is kind of a journeyman, he looks good at times but is not a top 50 fighter. Tyson will destroy him, because tyson is only good at fighter washed up slow fighters. if you put tyson in with klitchko, even in tyson's primeTyson would still get destroyed.

I would have to say Razor Rudduck. Rudduck gave Tyson
one hell of a tough fight but Tyson prevailed.I still
will never forget E.Holyfield whipping him like a little
kid in the ring.I was drinking a few extra cold ones
that night seeing Iron Mike have a iron defeciency.I
love watching him lose to anyone.

That Duddy fight was great. He just kept nailing him with that
left hook. It was extremely entertaining. And the guy he beat
was undefeated. A great way for an Irishman to celebrate
Saint Patty's day!

Here's to ya JD074, a fellow Son of Erin! I am going to have to try to keep up with more of these guys. I guess the fight I liked was Tyson getting beat by a bunch of guys since 1990. I was too young to remember much of his fights when he was in his prime, and since by that time the big fights were on HBO, I had no way to watch them anyway. I've never had HBO in my life.

Looking back on Tyson's career there are a number of pretty good fighters that he beat,at the same time there are no names that really stick out.Boxing is so subjective to the point that you can disect a fighter so much that even the all-time best can be made to look ordinary. You know,by saying a certain fighter padded his record by fighting has-beens and never-wases and the decent fighters he did fight were over the hill or had not reached their peak yet and on and on.The same thing goes for Tyson. Some of his big wins were Larry Holmes-over the hill,Michael Spinks-a blown-up light-heavyweight,Pinklon Thomas-heavily into his crack addiction Bonecrusher Smith-too old.You see what I mean.Having said that I'll have to go with white lightining on this one and say that Razor Ruddock were Tyson's best wins.Ruddock was in his prime and hit like a mule,as quoted by Tyson.Ruddock was a real good fighter that just happened to run into some other good fighters and got beat like Lewis,Tyson and everyone's favourite on this board Tommy"The Duke"Morrison.

I guess it's no big deal I missed all those 80's fights. Do you guys think it was a down decade for boxing, or not?

On the contrary, boxing experienced a bit of a golden era during the 80's as all three of the major networks CBS,NBC and ABC filled their weekend afternoon schedules with a lot of fights. It wasn't uncommon for one of the networks to have fight on both Saturday and Sunday and I'm talking title fights too and not just perliminary stuff. You would fights from bantamweight, featuring a fighter like Jeff Chandler to the Heavyweights with guys like Holmes,Coetzee and Tyson,etc...you could have a complete menu of fights, not to mention some of the prime-time specials that networks would periodicaly carry,it was awesome. With many marketable names like Leonard,Ray Mancini and Bobby Czyz you could literally follow the fighters career as he moved up the ranks. But boxing is very cyclacle where it's hot for a while then it can get kind of cold like it is now, kind of like pro wrestling, hot and cold.Nowadays HBO is king as well as Showtime and ESPN,which were players in the 80,s as well but had to take a back seat to the major networks who now will hardly touch boxing.

Hmm, I guess I did miss out. I remember those names, but I wasn't old enough to get into it I guess. I know what you mean about the cyclical nature of certain sports. To me wrestling is in a big time down cycle, and probably won't go back up. The best days of it to me were the 80's, when I watched it more than anything else. Now all they show is garbage. I used to watch Memphis Wrestling every Saturday morning on Channel 5. That was the best stuff, but when the WCW and WWF took over in the late 80's, it went downhill.
