Yep, Schlesinger is hurt. Also, Eddie Berlin is injured and out for
quite some time. I am certainly not rooting against these white
players, on the contrary I root for them and think it's ridiculous that
so many are never given a fair chance to compete. However, most white
RBs and WRs just simply have to become tougher, if they are going to
overcome the already long odds against them under the Caste System. I
don't question the validity of their injuries, but it is just simply
not believable that such a high proportion of these extremely rare
white skill position players (outside of QB) get injured so often. Even
accounting for the fact they are always targets on the field, and apt
to be hit harder by black defenders, they shouldn't be falling prey to
injuries to such an extent. Once they suffer one serious injury, they
never seem to regain their standing around the league. Not that they
had any real chance to start at RB or WR to begin with, but once they
become injured, they are instantly labeled as "injury prone," and never
given any chance after that. Look at Marc Boerigter; after his injury
last season, he will be lucky to be the Chiefs' 4th WR this year. He is
still bigger and faster (and more productive) than the black guys he's
competing against, but his season-long injury just put him at the back
of the line again, and Dick Vermeil certainly isn't going to give him
any breaks.
I'd love to be wrong about this, and guys like Brandon Stokley and
Dallas Clark are real favorites of mine, but I think if you look at the
facts you will see that a very high percentage of those few white RBs
and WRs in the NFL have a significant injury history.
