Ukrainian middleweight Ievgen Khytrov is turning pro. His debut will be December 18 in New York City. He'll fight for Dmitry Salita's "Star of David" promotional company and be trained by Buddy McGirt.

Khytrov was the victim of a hometown robbery against Anthony Ogogo in the 2012 London Olympics. He won Gold at middleweight in the 2011 world amateurs.

I'm so glad this thread was made, I watched the whole Olympic boxing programme and Kythrov was my favourite boxer of the tournament by far, he was robbed of a certain victory against the clear Gold medallist, his style is tailor made for the Pros, power in both hands(knocked Oggogo down twice), a solid chin, great defense. He is a fan friendly technical brawler, I can't wait to see his development

He's fighting with Salita's Star Of David Productions. He's not a Talmudist too, is he?

No.

I'm a bit concerned his promoter might exploit him and leave him broke, the way other Chosen Ones have over the years have expolited boxers of all races.

Buddy McGirt is the kiss of death. All his fighters lose and then do well after they get a new trainer. There was a list on CF a few years ago of all his losing fighters. A few that come to mind are Malignaggi, Macklin and Gatti. But there are tons more who get worse when they bring in Buddy as a trainer.

Weird. Can't tell if that KO was legit or if the guy just lay down. The camera immediately moved away from him the moment the alleged punch landed. Looks like a little room filled up with Jews from Brooklyn, yarmulkas and beards and all, cheering for Khytrov.

It took place at Webster Hall which is an old 19th century theater in the east Village in Manhattan, now designated a landmark. I used to live nearby. I never heard of them holding a boxing match in that place when i was around. In fact i never heard of the place period. I don't know what they used to do there. Appears that they hold concerts there now, even a wrasslin show. It's only a couple of blocks from McSorley's Old Ale House, also a landmark.

McSorley's on East 7th Street (Webster Hall is on East 11th). Looks the same as always, but now they let women in, and the ale is 1/2 the size it used to be and mostly foam.

Change of opponent: Khytrov will now face a tall lanky Negro named Maurice Louishome (8-0-1) on Jan 9.
