Holyfield vs. Ibragimov

Well, here we are with another one. I said Ibragimov was going to win a 10th rd. ko but I'll take the decision. Ibragimov very nearly won a 10th rd. ko with a blistering body shot but Holyfield was able to recover.
Holyfield said after the fight that he was "surprised" with Ibragimov's speed and movement. What the hell was he surprised for? Does he not have a computer to watch Ibragimov fights? Just what the hell were all of those twits on the usual boxing web sites thinking? Why did anyone think the outcome was going to be any different?
This fight was a cinch to pick. Didn't anyone see the weigh-in photos of Ibragimov walking around like he was at a family picnic? Ibragimov KNEW he was going to walk through Holyfield with his hand speed, his footwork, and his formidable power. Look, he's no Klistchko but he's Ibragimov and he's goddam good in his own right.

Anyway, I'm now 4-0 on my posted Caste predictions. Thank you Ibragimov and I know how good you are.

You really wouldn't know that by looking at his physique? Man, I wouldn't think anyone would fall into that trap around here at Caste. Take a look at one of the greatest boxers of this era: Joe Calzaghe, or of a past era: Rocky Marciano, or a new born star: Kelly Pavlik, or even a black legend of the past: Larry Holmes. Do you see the similarities? Fast, loose, and relaxed and none of them had or have tight, highly defined muscles. Looking at these men the casual observer might nonchalantly think lightly of them. That is a very big mistake. Do not judge a fighter by his physique, one may get their predictions wrong.

White Is Right, I'm not criticising you nor do I wish to offend you, I am only stating this point because I have read elsewhere on the net how so many have lightly regarded Ibragimov because of his physique.
 
I've never watch those idiot's videos because they wouldn't know a boxer if they saw one. That's perfect evidence, Bart, those 2 stooges' opinion isn't worth a pinch of pigeon sh*t.

Congratulationsto Ibragimov. A solid performance and a well-deserved win.
 
Many years a boxing fan, and I still get fooled by physiques. I expected Calzaghe to run for his life, and he walked right into Lacy no worries. Same deal with Pavlik-Miranda and Taylor. Kelly looks like a pitcher, or a shooting guard, not a murderous puncher, but he sure is.

I logged on this afternoon to predict, but the fight was already over. Man, those Russians sure do get up early.
 
Jaxvid, thanks for the pics man! Just out of curiosity, what the crap is the pad looking thing for that is sticking out above Holyfield's trunks? I have never seen one of those.

The physique thing is interesting. To look at the Sultan you might think he was an office clerk or something without a muscle in his body. You might even want to kick sand in his face at the beach. On the other hand many boxers have bodybuilder physiques, the K brothers for instance. The greatest athlete of the twentieth century was Babe Ruth and he loked more like a taxicab driver than an athlete, especially as he got older - big belly, skinny legs.

If the fight had been held in the USA the judges would probably have declared Holyfield the winner by split decision.

A couple of interesting points. As more and more heavyweight title fights are held outside of the US, European boxers should benefit, as fights that go to a decision will be less likely to be rigged than they would be in the US, perhaps.
Also, the betting line on these White vs. Black fights is very intresting. I've noticed that in the Klitschko/Brigg fight and this one as well that the White boxers in question were strong favorites but the black loving US reporters and fight fans thought the black in question had a good chance to win. In other words, when the rubber hits the road and people have to put their money where their mouth is, White boxers are indeed respected.
 
Another blow against the caste system. Great news. The trend is obvious and undeniable, the white man in boxing is back and it's more than just a temporary blip, we are actually dominating and taking over divisions.

Actually Calazghe has the perfect physique for his style. What I was saying guys that use their legs in the heavyweight division usually have a trimmer body. Ie prime Holy, Tommy Laughron, Billy Conn and others. One thing in the past when guys moved up in weight they tended to have physiques like Iggy's because they gained fat with muscle. These days because of roids, guys gained weight the way Holy did.

That's a great example using Billy Conn. Conn and Tunney were some of the early pioneers of the mobile boxing style favoured for decades in the States. Both, as you said, were trim.
 
None of the pre-steroid old timers looked like Holyfield.
