Twenty two year old South African Hekkie Budler claimed the vacant IBO Light Flyweight title yesterday with a win over Filipino Juanito Rubillar. Budler is one of the very few white South African fighters today.

Hekkie hangs on to his belt

Beating Rubillar twice, who is better than his record would indicate, is a great accomplishment for the young 22 year old. Even better when you consider Hekkie's opposition prior to facing the Filipino.

On the undercard Jason Bedeman 12-0-2(10) knocked out Bongani Dlamini to claim the IBO All Africa title.

WBA/IBO strawweight champion Hekkie Budler (27-1, 9 KOs) retained his titles with a twelve round unanimous decision over former WBC champion Xiong Zhao Zhong (24-6-1, 14 KOs)o. Zhong dropped Budler in round two, but Budler came back to floor Zhong in round three and take over the fight from there. Scores were 114-112, 118-108, 114-112.

Hekkie Budler upset Elwin Soto via unanimous decision on Saturday in Mexicali, Mexico in a junior flyweight fight. All three judges scored it 114-113 in a WBC light flyweight title eliminator.

A 12th-round knockdown scored by Budler was the difference.
