After the latest bouts, I'm wondering where we are in the elusive quest for some unification bouts. As far as I know, Ibragimov has a mandatory defense against Thompson coming up, Valuev vs. either Liakachev or Ruiz will battle it out to get to fight Chagaev if he's better in the spring, Peter may fight Maskaev, and Klitschko can't find a worthy opponent, though an IBF eliminator tournament is being held to determine his next mandatory IBF challenger.
Where does this leave a unification bout? Maybe Klitschko vs. the winner of Peter/Maskaev? Hopefully once two of the titles are unified, momentum would build to unify the others, and then an overall unification fight would take place, in Moscow no doubt, by fall of 2008. Just a thought.Edited by: referendum

Chagaev has been completely recovered for a month now (since early September), so there's no excuse for him not to fight Wladimir in December or early in 2008. I hate to say it, but I'm disappointed in Wlad for becoming inactive, and in Chagaev for not being willing to fight him.

Ibragimov will be ready - and willing - for a unification fight if he defeats Thompson.

A unification match involving the WBC titleholder is far off: first there has to be Peter vs. Maskaev, then Vitali Klitschko vs. the winner. Then, then the titleholder must fight the WBC mandatory: the winner of Gomez vs. McCall.

The undisputed Heavyweight title goes through W. Klitschko. I see him defeating/destroying all the other titlist. I believe he is comfortable and confident in his skills/power. And with the genius trainer E. Steward in his corner he should reign for at least another four years.

But he needs to signal a sense of eargency to accomplish it.

I don't really want to see the white champs fighting each other until every last cannibal is kicked the f out of the heavyweight division. Everybody knows who the real heavyweight king is anyway.

Well, just saw on a boxing site that WBA title eliminator is to be between Liakhochev vs. Valuev for the right to fight Chagaev. So, WBA belt stays in white hands for the forseeable future.

Chances to unify belts are never good in boxing. If any class is going to be unified in 08 it will probably be 160 or 168.

Klitschko is not inactive. He fought three months ago, and three times in the last eleven months. Hopefully he'll fight early next year.

Ugh, I cringe every time I see someone use a term like "cannibal." It's very bad for the reputation of this site.

I was hoping he'd have a fight scheduled by now and fight a third time this year, in November or December. He fought only twice in 2005, twice in 2006, and will have fought only twice in 2007. I think he should fight three times a year...

Since he is at his peak, now is the time to build his legacy. In a couple of years, when he starts to lose some of his speed and reflexes, it will be too late.

I just read that Wladimir told the German press on Monday that he wants a fight with Ibragimov, and Sultan's manager Margules said today that Wladimir's management has phoned him to discuss a fight. Margules said he will wait until next week to go through the discussions with Wlad's people, because one of his other boxers, Oliver McCall, is fighting on Friday. Edited by: JD1986

Is that better?

I am not sure total unification is possible. After Calzaghe beat Lacey who held the IBF belt the IBF stripped Calzaghe of their title for some reason. Calzahge is still undefeated so he did not lose it in a fight.

I think this guy is going to get flattened, but he talks big.

The undisputed cruiserweight champion, who is expected to face IBF and WBO king Wladimir Klitschko next year, claims the standard at heavyweight level is a disgrace.
The 27-year-oldfighter, whose next bout is likely to be with former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, said: "I'll fight two top-10 heavyweights and obliterate them. I'll show the world what heavyweight boxing really can be.
"At the moment you have one fat guy fighting an even fatter guy for the world title. It's a disgrace.
"Boxing has become a joke in the heavyweight division and it's time for me to come in lean, sharp, heavy and as a real athlete.
"I'm going to show these fat slobs what real boxing is about. This will be an exciting ride."

I think Haye put in a tape of Tubbs vs Page. Last time I looked the Jeri-curl is hazardous to your health(it could lead to grease fires while cooking).

Peter is not looking to unify. Plus there is the Chagaev-Valuev rematch, and the winner of that won't be looking to unify either.

Haye is just talking alot like most black fighters do. Alot of talk little action. He wants to get more people to watch his fights. Hes a bum and I guarentee he will not defeat Klitschko. He won't beat Chagaev either. Ibragimov, Povetkin, and Valuev would dominate him as well. The clown will get knocked out and his mouth will shut just as fast as it opened. Another Bernard Hopkins talking trash.

Chageav seemed to want to unify with Sultan. Wlad should tell Haye to capture one of the two belts he doesn't have and then he'll be more than happy to fight him.

No, Don King and Sam Peter have both said they plan to unify with the winner of Chagaev vs. Valuev, if they get by Vitali.

Interesting, I've never seen that written anywhere.

Because it's pure BS, like most of what JD writes.

Peter absolutely, positively will not have a match against another belt holder in 08. Guaranteed.

His next match will be against somebody not very good, and then a match against Vitali Klitschko, provided he does not get hurt training yet again.

No unification matches for Peter in 2008. None.

Both Don King and Sam Peter have said they want to unify with the winner of Valuev vs. Chagaev, but not until sometime in 2009, since Peter vs. Vitali will be taking place in October 2008.

Peter will fight TBA in July (rumored to be Andrew Golota or Audley Harrison) and then Vitali in October. Wlad is planning fight Thompson in July and Povetkin in November. There will be no unification in 2008.

I actually like the Chagaev vs Valuev winner fighting the Peter vs Klitschko winner and if Vitali doesn't win that the winner fighting Wlad. Since this is boxing one favourite will lose before this happens...
