Man could Bobby Morrow run. He was very smooth too. He had a natural stride. The good old days. We can win medals again and their are other Morrow types out there. Thanks for posting this bro.

thanks for that!
great stuff.

Did you all know that Hec Hogan (Bronze) died of leukaemia just one day before the next Olympic 100 was run in 1960.
What a sad day that was for Aussie T&F lovers.

Love the old stuff, especially about Morrow(possibly my favorite sprinter). The Olympics in Melbourne were probably held on the worst track ever that includes the '48 olympics in London. The best tracks of the day were cinder, still basicly dirt but absorbed weather better.Ever pay attention to the old videos and notice all the stuff kicking up behind the runners. It also made it very hard to give a consistent performance you might run a 10.2 one meet, run just as well the next one and have a 10.5, in fact I think that was what happened with Morrow in '56.It makes me wonder if Morrow could have worked out on a hard track or especially this Mondo we have today, how far under 10 could he go. After all the faster you can train the faster you will perform. He was an absolutely beautiful runner,West Texas boy to boot, and should have been allowed on the '60 olympic team.

just some interesting info ... apparently the only Republican i have respect for, Dr. Ron Paul, was an elite sprinter back in the day. now, he's an old school renaissance man.

you don't see the elite black sprinters today pulling down PhD's, do you?

You're Kidding! I need to see if I can look up some info on that. I think David Sime is a doctor as well.

Mind, body, spirit - the Greeks had it right with their "balance." Dr. Ron Paul being a sprinter was discussed on this site before. He had an impressive 100 yd. dash time to boot.

Loved that video on Guy Drut.Did you notice that even with that track, it was still like the clay at roland-garos tenis court for the french open. You can still see crap kick up behind him.

That Guy Drut vid was great. Talk about poetry in motion! I remember being electrified as a kid watching him win the gold at the 76 games. The announcers said his big problem was that his start was so fast, he'd continually run in to the first hurdle. In an interview in Sports Illustrated he said that his inexperience in 72 led him to believe he should glide over the hurdles. He said that he learned from Milburn that you have to attack the hurdles. And he was such an agile guy. The same article said that after the race he was so happy, that he ran up a flight of stairs on his hands. Also, he seriously considered the pole vault and decathlon.

The timing of this post is good as we're on the verge of another Frenchmen breaking through a major sprint barrier.

Years back, before the internet revolution, I used Guy Drut as an example for my arguments of the possibility of white exceptionalism in a black dominated sport.Keep in mind his accomplishments were a little before my time,so all I had to go on was what I read; and would pronounce his name in the anglicized way Guy Drut--same as tie rut--. One time I thought I had made my point regarding high hurdles with an older black dude who I would banter with from time to time and my exclamation point was Guy Drut. When he looked at squinty-eyed,his head wienered to the side and said "it's Gi Drew you idiot": and all I could say was "oh yeah, him too".
