Gonzaga played VERY poorly today, yet still came within a couple of missed opportunities of beating Memphis.
the Zags looked very sluggish and intimidated. the first could be explained by the early start time, but the second is unforgiveable. Pargo began the game looking awful, but turned it on about midway through the first half and ended up being Gonzaga's best player today.
Heytvelt was solid and flashed the all-around skills that have pro scouts salivating, though he didn't dominate like he is capable of. instead, he spent most of the game floating on the perimeter... and he did pick up several cheap fouls.
Micah Downs had a solid game, but he had too many turnovers.
Bouldin and Pendergraft might as well have slept in. they played terrible, as did Gray, Day, and Kuso. all in all, an UGLY game from the Zags' standpoint.
however!
playing as poorly as they did, they still had a chance to win. and hopefully that will make them hungrier as the season ends and the postseason begins. i would like to see a re-match in the NCAA tourney with a fully healthy Heytvelt.
