I have a buddy that is doing a eight team IDP league this year and would welcome some advice from people that have done IDP before.I want to make my starting defense all white players and hopefully get some good white starters on offense also.

The setup for the teams is= 1-QB , 2-RB , 2-WR , 1-TE , 1-K , 1-RB,WR,TE Flex on offense 2-DL , 2-LB , 2-DB , 1-Flex on defense and 10 bench players overall.

The lineup i'm going for is DL- JJ Watt and ? ( Jared Allen,Chris Long,Jason Babin ) LB- Luke Kuechly and ? (Chad Greenway,James Laurinaitis,Brian Cushing ) DB- Eric Weddle and Harrison Smith

This is the defense i hope i can build but have no idea how early i need to start drafting guys like Luke or JJ.What other suggestions would you have for DL and LB?Who would be another DB to consider that should put up some numbers?

At least with it only being 8 teams i should be able to build my defense and still grab some good white WRs and Woodhead in mid-late round choices.

I'm seriously thinking about drafting a good RB in the first and then going for Luke in the 2nd and JJ in the 3rd.Good idea or bad?

Eight teams is a very small league. You should try to get in one of CF's two fantasy football leagues next year if there is an opening.

When you draft players depends on different factors. First off is it a dynasty league or a keeper league or a redraft league? What is the scoring system for IDPs? If it rewards big plays more than steady production like tackles and assists, then you need to draft accordingly. You need to know that kind of basic information first.

In the formation drafts of IDP leagues I'm in and as a general rule, roughly the first five or six rounds are spent drafting offensive players. The first IDPs to start coming off the board are the top linebackers, though J. J. Watt is such a freak that he could well be the first defensive player taken in your draft.

Linebackers have the most value in IDP leagues, they're highly valued like the top RBs, WRs and QBs. A top linebacker can be a reliable big scorer for your team for a number of years if you obtain him when he's young (if it's a dynasty league).

Defensive backs score a lot of points also but there tends to be a large variance between their fantasy performances from year to year, unlike the top linebackers. You can almost always get good DBs off the waiver wire so don't draft any prematurely.

Defensive linemen are roughly equivalent to tight ends, they usually will be your lowest scoring defensive players by a considerable amount, but there's roughly a dozen or so reliable ones that are worth drafting fairly early once the linebackers start to go.

Another thing to consider is if the other owners in your league are racially aware or not. If none of them are CFers, you can generally draft good White players later than they should go because most fantasy owners undervalue them as the fantasy "experts" never expect much out of them except for some QBs and a few TEs.

I'd recommend doing a web search for some articles on basic IDP strategy. Another thing to consult is the ADP (average draft position) for all offensive and defensive players. It's also a good idea to purchase a subscription to at least one pay fantasy site. They usually run around $29 to $39 and the good ones have a wealth of information that will help you.

I won a league (racially unaware) a couple of years ago with an all white offense starting for the championship game - Gerhart and Hillis I believe were my starting RBs. That something that has been an impossibility in all my years playing ff dating back to the early 90's.

Don gives good advice.

Is this a keeper league? If so, get the young guys. Several years ago in the caste football Riggin's league I drafted Peyton Manning is the first overall person and I still have him as my keeper. In the Lambert I drafted Adrian Peterson as a rookie in the first round 7th overall and I still have him.

Either way if you get Kuechly and Watt that would be a good defense. However, you can probably wait longer than the second or 3rd round. Don't get desperate to draft and all white team and pick guys way too early. Remember you can always trade to get that white player that someone else happened to pick especially in a racially unaware league. In an auction league last year I bought RG3 for 2 dollars and after one good game I traded him for Peyton Manning. In the same league after years of stealing Wes Welker in the middle or late rounds someone finally drafted him a little earlier than usual right before me. I made a fair trade after a week or two and got him anyway. Be patient.

Also, most guys draft VERY predictably. Look at the rankings and decide how long you can wait.

Thank you Don Wassall and Kaptain for the first round of advice. It was late when i started the thread and forgot to add some of the league details. This is a keeper league thru nfl.com and uses a custom scoring system.

Scoring system is = 6 points for defensive TD , 2 points for sack,int,forced fumble,fumble recovery,blocked kick,safety,10+ tackles,3+ pass defended,50+ int return for TD,and 50+ fumble recover for TD , 1 point for tackle,pass defended,2+ sack bonus,per 10 yards on sacks,per 20 on int yards,and per 20 fumble recovery yards , .5 point for assist tackle,tackle for loss,and QB hit

The scoring system is one of the main reasons i want to pick up JJ Watt and Luke kuechly as early as possible since they should do great under this system.I did play a IDP league last year but was out of town on draft night so i missed out on seeing how the draft strategy worked out.The defense drafted for me had a few players that i couldn't stand so after dropping them i was able to pick up Luke K,James L,Harrison S,and Eric Weddle so i know how good those guys can be and can only be better under the custom scoring.

I am the only one in this league as far as i know that is very racially aware.Out of the 4 guys i hang out with and watch/talk football regularly only the league manager gets where i'm coming from about whites being screwed over and is slightly aware of the system. He watches a lot of preseason every year and often notices that good white players get cut while scrubs stay on the team.

This will be the first year in a quite a while that I won't be playing fantasy football. I tried setting up two all defense leagues (4 DB, 4 LB, 2 DE and 1 DT) but missed the draft for both of them and had autodraft pick basically all black players for me, and couldn't get a third one started. Last year I did that with all White players and had the best team by far in both leagues, I drafted JJ Watt late in both leagues and he was a monster, this year I noticed that he was picked first in both drafts, last year he probably went undrafted in all leagues but mine that had any defensive players.

I managed to draft for a couple more traditional leagues but I really just don't care to manage them at all. I actually drafted black RBs this year, and had Danny Woodhead as a flex/backup, it's the first year in a while that did that but drafting White RBs is just not viable since Hillis's big year, in that same year Woodhead was a good fantasy player as well.
