It is amazing to think something like a Fruit Cup Frisbee game or whatever it is would shed further light on this whole "right wing" Patriots flap that reached a boil when the team visited The White House. In my mind it casts light on what was going on in parts of the media before and after the Super Bowl.
I said at the time of the visit that the notion that the Pats had a so called political outlook was wrong and they are no different than your average NFL team. Yes Kraft is a long time friend of Trump's but since Trump has been all over the map politically in his life one couldn't assume anything regarding Kraft. But in some media quarters there was major media upset that the Pats won and some but not all parts of the media, mainly hard left web sites tried to insinuate the Pats were not only right wing but racist too. And since a white supremacist Richard Spencer came out and went full out hog on why he was so happy the "white" Pats won, the hard left was desperately trying to undercut the Patriots by "white shaming" by suggesting if you rooted for the Pats you were a racist too. This would not be the first time parts of the media go after teams that "have a lot of white players" and in this case there was mention that the Pats white receiving squad was part of this "white power" push.
In parts of the general media though the contention was that the Pats were a far right team. But that masked the real problem certain groups and members and many blacks had with the Patriots. I really don't think they give a rat's ass if the owner Kraft would like to see say a less progressive tax income system or prefers a stronger military. The REAL PROBLEM certain media outlets had with the Pats was not that they were a white team because in truth they are like most every other team in the NFL which is mainly black. The REAL PROBLEM they had with the Pats is that the glory position WR was ruled by the Pats and all the other political mumbo jumbo was mainly just a bunch of red herrings to mask their real issue which was star white WR's performing gloriously.
If and when teams no matter the sport start having multiple white "glory position players" like WR expect more of this undercutting by certain parts of the media who want to push back hard on white players being the "athletic" stars.
