Arturo Gatti has announced his retirement after his defeat at the hands of Alfonso Gomez on Saturday. This is probably for the best, as at 35, his best days are clearly behind him and I would hate to see him get seriously hurt.

His three fights with Mickey Ward were classics, with neither guy taking a backward step. As an Irishman who grew up in Boston, I was rooting for Ward, but had the utmost respect for Gatti. So did Ward. They became very good friends and Ward even trained him for his last fight.

All the best, Arturo.Edited by: pt.guard2

Gatti's been burnt out for a while, but he sure did last a lot longer than many thought he would. I just hope he stays retired.

Don't forget the war(s)Gatti had with Vernon Forrest! Time and again Gatti would rebound from taking his opponents best shot and ultimately win the fight. Arturo fought an " old school" style, in you face with brutal exchanges. He gave everything he had in every fight and I will always admire him for that. God Bless him and hope he lives a long, happy retirement.
