Hugo Garay and Yuri Barashian will fight for a light-heavyweight title on July 3. This could be a war! Both of these guys can bang. This is exactly the type of fight that should be on Friday Night Fights, Versus, ShoBox, or Boxing After Dark. Not big names, but a potentially big fight. Not a prospect fighting some bum.

Garay appears to be white, either pure Spanish or of mixed Spanish and other European. Argentina took in a lot of Spanish, Italian, German and other European immigrants in the 19th and early 20th century). He should win this, he's a good fighter who held his own against Erdei in two fights.

He has just three questionable losses on his record: A SD and an MD against Erdei, and a second-round DQ for hitting after the bell (should have been just a warning).

Barashian had three fights last year against the weakest imaginable opponents, but then stepped up and KOed Ulrich a few months ago.Edited by: JD1986

Great fight.

Barashian has an excellent chin and an aggressive style, but doesn't have good footwork and doesn't throw effective combinations. His style reminds me of Glenn Johnson.

Barashian tried to walk Garay down the entire fight, but Garay was hitting him with numerous jabs and combinations of power punches. Garay is clearly the better skilled boxer of the two, although Barashian had him hurt in the 10th and rocked him in the 5th.

Although I'm not certain, I think he's of European heritage, either pure Spanish, or a mix of Spanish and other European. He appears to be white, and Argentina probably has the highest percentage of white people of any Latin American country. Not only did a lot of people settle there from Spain, but it has a surprisingly large number of people of Italian, German and other European heritage.

I just checked in wikipedia - Argentina has a higher percentage of people of European (white) heritage, about 90%, than either Canada or the US!

Much of Argentina has a temperate climate, which most Europeans prefer over tropical, so it was a more attractive place to settle than the Columbian or Costa Rican jungle. Unlike Brazil, there were never a lot of plantation slaves brought to Argentina, except to a northern area that later broke away and became Paraguay. Although there are some Argentinians of Native or mixed white-native heritage, they are not as predominant as in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

There are surprisingly few "Mestizos" in Argentina, compared to other Latin American countries, and far more people of pure Spanish heritage.

Argentines regard themselves as white. In fact even Mestizos do much of the time. I recall some bad racial blood between the Mestizo Monzon and the Black Roderigo Valdez in their title fight build ups.
