Federer portrayed as gay..

They have to spoil the commercial at the end by having him stroke Tiger's face...This one really pissed me off. If I were Federer I would have never agreed to do that. How degrading.

Maybe they think they're doing Federer a favor for even considering him good enough to share a stage with His Highness.

I find Woods' reaction interesting -- he strongly objects to being touched by Federer. A white athlete being stroked like that would have to smile and pretend it's a wonderful thing.

What also stands out is how bogus the casting is. It should be just Woods and Federer. They are far and away the dominant players in their respective sports, two prominent individual sports, whose careers parallel each other in many ways. But still they have to add an obscure (to most American sports fans) black player from a team sport to reinforce thepropaganda principlethat most great athletes are black.

Everybody is expected to be a metrosexual now, Federer included. It also feeds into the stereotype about tennis players being soft. I don't think that and still have a ton of respect for Federer but he did himself a disservice with this commercial.

I sent this link to a friend and he saw it as though Thierry and Federer were making fun of Woods.

how is he being portrayed as gay? i think some people are looking for weird stuff when there's none to be found.

He caressed Wood's cheek. How often do you do that to your straight friends, bro?

A slap on the back, a grab of the arm shaking hands, ok. But I don't think I've ever reached out my hand and softly felt the close shave of another man. But that's just me... too each his own. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Then of course Woods looks at him like wtf? And Thierry shakes his head and starts chuckling. Woods looks at Thierry as if to say, 'wtf is wrong with this dude, touching my face?'

Pretty obvious, imo.

American men are much more inhibited when it comes to men touching men. Don't European men kiss hello on the cheek.

Woods actually looks like the odd man out as Federer and Thierry seem to be enjoying Woods discomfort. They probably feel more connected being from Europe. Thierry seems to be thinking, "I can't believe you just messed with him like that, but it was funny as hell."

My two best friends, one I greet with a hello hug and the other a hand shake. Both seem perfectly natural.

If there is nothing "gay" about Federer's actions, then why did Woods react that way? Just by having Wood's react way that tells the story... To me this is just another instance were the media is using humor to cover its true intentions.

Not that there is anything wrong with being gay..

What I didn't like is that the three were portrayed as being the same
height. The fact is that Federer is 6'4 while as woods and Henry are only
6'0. As a matter of fact, I believe that Rodger actually appeared to be
slightly shorter then Tiger.

Looks like a rather Gay move to me. Would Tiger have agreed to playfully touch Federer? It is an American commerical meant for an American audience so European "huginess" doesn't really matter. Jeff Garcia, Troy Aikman, how many white athletes have to defend their manhood against the media?

you might have hit the nail right on the head bud. having lived in Europe past several years, especially here in Spain, i got used to some stuff like this.
even in France, some of my rugby teammates would greet others with two kisses.
i just do the hug, which is fairly natural to me, obviously only with friends.

i also agree with the second part of your message, seems to me like they are both messing with Woods.

It reminds me of the beginning of the "squeal like a pig" scene in "Deliverance" where Don Job (Bill McKinney) rubs Bobby Trippe's (Ned Beatty) cheek as if he's sizing him up (pre-punkin').

I appreciate Federer's accomplishments but he looks like a stiff doing a piece of rubbish as described here.
He shouldn't even of answered their phone calls.
