I was just curious of ya'll's favorite guitar pickers (bass included) irregardless of genre? Not (necessarily) who you think the BEST are, but your favortes. Mine are...

1) Ted Nugent - Amboy Dukes, Damn Yankees & solo stuff kix @$$!
2) Dimebag Darrell Abbott (RIP) - Pantera, Rebel Meets Rebel, DamagePlan (*best metal guitarist ever IMO...btw).
3) George Thorogood - Deleware Destroyers
4) Jerry Reed (RIP) - Elvis, solo
5) Glen Tipton - Judas Priest
6) Dave Murray - Iron Maiden
7) Steve Harris (Bass) - Iron Maiden (his "rythmn bass" style is some of the best I've ever heard).
8) Stevie Ray Vaughan (RIP) - with Double Trouble & David Bowie
9) Joe Walsh - James Gang, The Eagles

i don't know how many of you guys listen to country, but i only saw one country guitarist on the list.

there are currently two big country artists who are very good musicians:

Brad Paisley and Keith Urban, who is from Australia.
 
Let us not forget the Great DOC Watson ( Blue Grass )
Richard Thompson (Celtic Folk ) Nor Chet Atkins or Les Paul
Charlie Byrd or Robbie Robinson Andre Segovia. There ae more great white guitar pickers than you shake a stick at.

Eric Johnson and Leslie West are a couple of players I like a lot. Johnny Winter is also a great guitar player. One of the most forgotten/under-rated guitarists is the late great Terry Kath of Chicago fame. In 1968 Hendrix said Kath was better than him, so that should tell you something. Just watch some clips of him playing 25 or 6 to 4 live in the late 60s/early 70s and you'll see what I mean. The man was awesome! Edited by: Colonel_Reb
 
Since this thread is about guitars and guitar players, I thought I would mention that a couple of days ago I won a Guitar autographed by my favorite heavy metal band Metallica a couple of days ago in a online sweepstakes. It's being mailed to me in a few days, kinda of a cool thing to own or I might put it up on ebay and sell it, not sure right now.

Thanks DWfan, definitely awesome. I just found out from a ex-girlfriend today(still friends) that she won a sweepstakes I entered her in a few months ago. She won a John Terry Chelsea jersey and the shorts and socks that go with it. She is a huge fan of international soccer and Terry in particular and so it's a prize thats meaningful for her. I have a hobby where I enter every sweepstake I come across if the prize is interesting and sometimes it pays off.

Angus Young and Ricky Medlocke (Blackfoot, Skynnard) are 2 other faves.Phil Keaggy is a great one not known outside of Christian scene & pickers.

I agree with you about Phil Keaggy, sensational guitar player.
 
the best guitarist i've ever heard hasnt ever made a name for himself but its Doug Treat hes been featured on Van Halen tracks along with the NUGE and Joe Satrini, look him up and forever change the way you look at music

I'll add a couple of more that may raise some eye brows, but you got to throw Robert Cray and George Benson is there. Watched Benson and Glen Campbell do a duo once. Very cool.

Carlos Santana.

Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler had a duo album out. Spectacular.

Amazing how these guys can get there fingers flying like that.

JW96, the Allman Brothers were vintage Southern Rock. I like ol' Dicky Betts as well. Mountain's West threw it down on "Mississippi Queen".

AM0, Atkins was Reed's mentor. They did a few jams together ("Jerry's Breakdown", etc.). My Dad also had alotta Chet albums. Ol' Knopfler could throw down as well ("Sultans of Swing" is a good one). I love the shot at the "little fa99ot with earrings & makeup".
