I was looking at Eurobasket a web site you guys should check out. It has reports about basketball in just about every country in the world. Its kind of interesting and some times humorous to look at the state of basketball around the world. Its funny how some counties take to basketball will similar countries don't. Many counties in Europe have taken to Basketball producing great players and national teams. But in other Euro counties were basketball is not popular black American players play for the countries national sides. These are players that are by no means house hold names in America. I think national teams should be made of players who are ethnic to their country. Off coarse I don't think Western Countries should let in third world types in the first place. (of coarse I'm preaching to the choir ) Sadly in today's times an African immigrant is just as "German" as a real German. I know that the nation state is probable dead in the west for now but, at least when a player makes an obvious citizenship change for the express purpose of playing for a national team the move should not be aloud. This happens in soccer and basketball.

Well maybe I'm being hypocritical because if some European country wanted me for its national team I'd play.

Any thoughts on the upcoming World Championships?


The 2006 edition will be played in Japan from 19th August until 3rd September in five different cities.

The following 24 teams will compete in the event:
Angola
Argentina
Australia
Brazil
China
France
Germany
Greece Italy
Japan
Lebanon
Lithuania
New Zealand
Nigeria
Panama
Puerto Rico
Qatar
Senegal
Serbia & Montenegro
Slovenia
Spain
Turkey
Venezuela
USA

The teams will play against each other in the preliminary phase in four groups of 6 teams. The 4 top teams from each group will then qualify directly for the Eighth-Finals, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals.

Im intrested in how the U.S. will play.

Does inyone know if it will be on t.v.

Look for Lithuania, Argentina, and Spain to be tough. Nowitzki will do his best to make Germany competitive. The international tournaments in basketball have gotten to be my favorite sporting events.

Will the US teams preparation and familiarization to international rules make a difference this time around?

I really don't think the rules in international play are that different that it causes a problem for American teams. The team America sent to Athens was not the best team in the tourney and they lost straight up.Evan if they played together for ten years their chance at wining gold was not good.

I think the whole way that the U.S. is going about building the team will insure a better result in the next Olympics. The players that the U.S. has for tryouts are allot better and more team oriented than last Olympics. With that said the dream team is not coming back, but I think the U.S. are early favorites.

The most important difference in the rules is that they often enforce them. Stop all the hacking and traveling and it is a different game. The wider lane at the bottom would make a difference if a Shaq type was trying to camp out under the goal and elbow his way to the rim.
