While waiting to get a haircut, I picked up a copy of this rag (against my better judgement) dated 4/23. It contained yet another article about the "crisis" of the "disappearing" black player in MLB.
Addmitedly, I didn't read the whole thing, especially becuse several current players (of the African-American persuation) were being interviewed, all expressing the lack of "brothers" in the game.
In a sidebar, a man I used to respect as a player, Frank Robinson, is quoted as saying that if things keep up the way they are going, in the future no one will believe there were ever blacks in the big leagues.
Well, you can imagine how I felt reading this drivel. So, as soon as I got home, I fired off a letter to the editors e-mail to the magazine. In it, I asked why it is a
"crisis" when the numbers of black baseball players are supposedly dwindling, but it is perfectly fine that in the NBA and NFL, the factual disappearence of white players is NOT a crisis. I cited, of course the near non-existance of white cornerbacks for many years, and reminded Mr. Robinson that a whole generation of NFL fans have never seen a white running back (not fullbacks) who has started for a full season.
I know this letter I sent will never see the light of day, but God, I'm getting so sick of this crap I can hardly stand it. I just had to vent.
