Madden doesn't bash white players, but he likes marginal black players too much. He's not really that good in the booth, so it's extra annoying to hear his completely uninsightful commentary, coupled with his praise for routine plays.
"BOOM! Did you see that tackle? Damarcus Jamarcus Washington Edwards Junior is a real athlete, I mean this guy really brings it on every play."
Yes John, he wraps up and tackles instead of just trying to hit and missing half the time like most black defenders in the NFL today.

I like John Madden because he makes me feel smart! He never gives you any new information, he just tells you things you already know. Shame on Fox for breaking up the Bert and Ernie of football, that being Madden and Summerall.

The Chargers have released free safety Marlon McCree.
The long-anticipated move comes as free agency is set to begin at 9:01 p.m. today.
McCree, 30, started every game at free safety the past two seasons after signing as a free agent from Carolina in 2006. It became apparent midseason that rookie Eric Weddle would take over the starting job in 2008, and that is when McCree's departure became all but a formality.
The team will announce the move at a noon press conference, in which general manager A.J. Smith discusses the Chargers' offseason plans.

I personally think it would be better for the Chargers to start Weddle at CB and move Quentin Jammer back to Free Safety, but I guess gaining a starting White DB, even if it is at Safety is a victory.

In an interview with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio's The Herd with Colin Cowherd, former Titans GM Floyd Reese was asked about this pick and how much the Chargers had given up to get him and intimated to Colin that he believes Weddle to be the best athlete of the 2007 Draft.
In an interview with Chargers.com after the draft, Buddy Nix and new head coach Norv Turner were asked about their opinion of Weddle. When asked what he liked about him most, Nix responded, "I think his versatility is one thing. Our defense, instead of having to substitute and guess when you start getting full of wide-outs and that kind of thing, this guy can walk up and play the slot man which is hard to do without having to substitute, like on third down when we would play nickel or dime. But if they throw it out there at you and don't have somebody that can go down and play on the slot, then it causes you problems."
Turner also had this to say about Weddle: "First of all Eric is a guy makes a strong impression on you right away. He's a confident guy. He's an outgoing guy. I think the fact that this guy can line-up and play safety, play on the slot and he's played outside and corner at Utah. They showed one of the clips and we caught some of it but they showed one of him lined-up at quarterback on third down and taking a shotgun snap and running with the ball. He's a highly intelligent player and he has a knack. Some guys have it and some guys don't. There were a couple plays that we were looking at and Ted Cottrell (defensive coordinator) called me in one day and said 'look at this play' and he tackles the guy from behind, spins him and when they both bounce off the ground Eric has the ball in his hand and he never touches the ground, he picks it up and runs it in for a touchdown. As Buddy said, he had four returns for touchdowns. He's a guy that finds a way to make plays. He gives us versatility in the secondary, and obviously gives us a guy that will be a playmaker on special teams. Our defensive coaches were really excited when we walked down the hall and said we're going to get this player." He really is a soon to be Brian Dawkins or Ed Reed[4]

Here's a "complimentary" article about Weddle, packed full with racist stereotyping and digs about his physique. Maybe I-A and the NFL need less "chiseled blacks" and more football players.

It's actually a pretty funny article. He ran into Quentin Jammer, and he was the lesser injured of the two, and is saying how sorry he was, being apologetic, etc. while Jammer wanted to "fight him".

spring, was still angry after practice. But he also understood the hit
was not intentional and was more mad at the situation.

Blacks don't like to see whites at the skill positions. They feel every receiver, running back, and defensive back should be black. I can only imagine how these white skill players must feel on the field.

Eric Weddle is one of my favorite DB's in the league...adds another dimension to the Chargers secondary. Watched him play CB in college; go figure they would convert him into a Safety in the NFL...the stereotyping has gotten too old after this...Steve Gregory was actually listed as a CB until this season...thought Dustin Fox should have been a CB...
Versatile Rookie-Tom Nelson for the Bengals should be given a fair-shot at CB too..but somehow like to list him as a Safety....it's stinkin' frustrating!!!
With the exception of Jason Sehorn....seems like the 1990 Draft seemed to make CB off-limits after John Mangum was converted to Safety..eventhough he'as listed by some as a S/CB. A white cornerback in the SEC even back then was rare...something they don't allow these days unless your a walk-on/Special teams ace like Daniel Graff of LSU that ran 4.32-4.36 and finally earned a scholarship this his Senior season.
Always thought Weddle could pass for Moto-Cross looking dude too...

Good news from Rotoworld: Chargers FS Eric Weddle says he will "for sure" return from his knee sprain in Week 15 against Cincinnati. Weddle claims he would've played at Dallas had it been a playoff game or a must-win, though admitted it was "prudent" to take the week off. Weddle is the Bolts' best safety in terms of run stopping and playmaking ability.

Don,
No matter how correct Weddle is, and I'm sure he is, there's no reason for that. It doesn't help anything. The bum is gone and it should have been left at that. I don't like to see our guys louse up and as far as I'm concerned, Weddle loused up.
