Is he garunteed to make the team? Also signing Williams is bad idea, a bon vivant like that on a team of minimum wage soldiers is likely to cause locker room dissention. Back years ago Raghib Ishmail did the same thing.........

Eric is pretty well guaranteed to make the team this year. Damon Allen is the starting QB with Spergeon Wynn his backup leaving last year's 3rd string Charlie Peterson and Eric Crouch battling for the third spot on the roster. Each team has a four man reserve that is part of the 46 man roster but don't dress and where the fourth string QB will probably be kept at full salary.
There is also a seven man practice roster but they can be picked up by the other teams as required. My guess Eric will start the season as the 3rd string to learn the CFL game and go from there as opportunities arrive.

I believe the number of CFL games is 16. It would be really superb if Crouch could dominate in the CFL, making everyone who didn't give him the chance to succeed at QB look foolish.

The CFL season has had an 18 game schedule for several years now as 2 of 4 exibition games were eliminated and added to the schedule.

Up here in Canada, the Toronto media has given some pretty consirable face-time to Crouch. I saw a lengthy interview with the guy on either TSN or Sportsnet the other day and I'll pass my impressions on to you people for what it's worth:
He does come across as sort of surly. I believe he said something to the affect of "...I'm not just using the CFL as a springboard to the NFL...I'd just end up getting screwed down there again..." He actually used the word "screwed" and spoke in a sort of brash, off-the-cuff way the rest of the interview. It seemed kind of odd for a 27-year-old rookie only trying-out for a team to speak in so open a way.
He's probably a bit of a maverick prick and a malcontent...NFL coaches don't take kindly to that sort of thing from undersized White kids from Middle America, I gather.

The offensive coordinator Kent Austin was Ole Miss' last good long term QB before Eli Manning came to school. Maybe he will give Eric an opportunity to show his talents and become the starter before the season is over. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Eric looked terrible in his first reps today, throwing behind receivers and under throwing others. Kent Austin appeared to give him a talking to and he looked better later in the practice, completing some nice short passes and then connecting on a bomb to Tony Miles (Northwest Missouri State) for a TD. But he got picked off later throwing into tight coverage. The Argos don't seem to have any designed running plays for him yet, which I thought was his strong point. But the talent is there, it's just going to take some time, but he's not ready yet.

Colonel, don't forget about John Fourcade. Fourcade had a couple good years with the Saints as a sometime-starter.

Fourcade was great, but he was before Austin. Kent Austin replaced Fourcade as Rebel QB after he graduated. People still talk about both John and Kent around the Ole Miss campus. I didn't know what Fourcade was up to now though, its good to hear he's still in the game, and in the South.

I always wondered if Crouch put on another few pounds of muscle,he could have been an amazing running back.He has the speed,and the guy knew how to make people miss.Some of his long td runs in college reminded me of the great Steve Young who also could have been a running back!

I think Eric only made the team on potential, didn't look very good in the pre-season games. It going to be run first and pass second for him to have any success if he gets to play much this year.

Eric Crouch played the second half in Toronto's 26-23 win over Saskatchewan yesterday. Starter Spergon Wynn was knocked out of the game on the last play of the first half.
Crouch completed 4 of 9 passes for 117 yards including a 94 yard pass and run to Arland Bruce. He also ran 3 times for 32 yards, including one 20 yard run. He may get the start next Saturday against the B.C. Lions as the Argos No. 1 QB Damon Allen is still out with a broken finger on his throwing hand and Wynn will probably be held out because of a concussion. There is also talk of Doug Flutie coming in to help out until Allen is back.

Crouch was THE option back. So much better than Vick. I watched all those highlights and specifically remember the OU game as I watched that on TV. The guy was awesome.
Just think if Eric Crouch had gotten half the opportunities Michael Vick has had in the NFL. He'd be in the prime of his career right now. . . He probably should have played WR for Mike Martz's Rams back when they were almost half White as it's likely no other team would have given him any kind of chance to succeed other thanpossibly at safety. Rick Mueller is the brother of horrific NFL Caste clown Randy Mueller, who I've written about at lengthinthe Chargers forum. Wherever Randy goes, white players begin to disappear quickly-- notice how dark the Chargers have gotten since he came to So. Cal to be A.J. Smith heir-appearent?
Obviously, the only reason'brother Rick' ispumping up a 32 year old Crouch so much, is because he wants to continue to fill seats in Omaha, which drew extremely well for a lowly UFL franchise last fall. Rick and his white-hating brother both had plenty of chances to allow Crouch to revive his NFL career over the years and never had any interest
P.S: The Packers brought Crouch in to try out at safety, around 2004 or so, after he played defense in NFL Europe, but that didn't last long. That was pre-Ted Thompson, when they had Caste-slut Mike Sherman running the show. Cheifs also brought him in to torture him a little more. I do believe Eric's only chance to carve out a real NFL career was with the Rams, at wide receiver, when Martz was coaching. Word is Martz told him he would give him at least two years on the 53 man roster to learn the position before even considering releasing him. But he retired because he wanted to play quarterback and wound up never playing a snap in the NFL.

Many of the scouting reports on Crouch coming out of college said that he should be a running back in the NFL. Surprisingly, they stated that he had the explosion and breakaway speed to be a scat back. It would have been very interesting to see how he would do as a running back. The potential was there as he was a very good runner in college.
