WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (Welsh born Italian and good friend of Calzaghe) is being lined up for a bout with IBF title holder Steve Cunningham. The Welshman has a record of 26-1 (20 Ko's) ans says 'I don't see anyone in the division to cause me problems, if I'm on top of my game nobody will touch me'. Personally I feel Enzo would have a great chance against O'Neil Bell but he will have to wait for that one.

I would love to see that fight. The winner would have two belts. Any opinions on Enzo's chances with Mormeck? I don't know a darn thing about him. That could be an exciting unification bout.

I just found out that Cunningham has rejected the fight which was ment to be next month becuase he needs more time to rest, but did state that the fight might be a possibility for October/November. I think Enzo needs a bit more experience before he fights Mormeck, who it has to be said is a beast!

I was so angry when Cunningham beat Wlodarczyk by decision. It happened on the same day as the LIddell loss so that made it even worse. Enzo isa big cruiser at 6'4 and seems to pack lots of power. I hope he can get all the belts back for us like at heavy (we are also very close at 160, 168 and 175 where there is only one black champ a piece).Cunningham should give a rematch to the Pole as they each won a fight against each other.

Mormeck is not unbeatable. He is a small cruiser (about 5'11) and was KO'd by O'Neill Bell.

Oh, and isn't Enzo half Welsh-half, half-Italian like Joe Calzaghe? If so, that seems to be a very potent combo.

Obviously Mormeck is beatable, he's been beaten 3 times (twice early on in career). Mormeck should've beaten O'Neil Bell but his tactics let him down as he's clearly not the brightest lad in boxing. Mormeck packs more power than O'Neil Bell. Anyways give Enzo one or two more high calibre fights and he is ready to fight O'Neil or Mormeck. Apparently Wayne Braithwaite has taken up Enzo's offer, Braithwaite saying he doesn't mind whether the fight takes place in USA or Cardiff. And yea, Enzo is half Welsh half Italian like Calzaghe.

O'neil Bell is also beatable as Dale Brown proved not that long ago.A solid jab and some fine counter-punching by Brown had Bell sucking wind late in the fight and showed what happens when he's in with a good boxer.Shamefully the decision went to Bell and there has been no rematch ever considered.I'd give Enzo a decent chance to beat Bell.

Enzo v. Braithwaite on July 21. Let's see if it gets any American TV coverage.

Enzo Maccarinelli says he is close to securing a unification title fight against IBF champion Steve Cunningham.
Negotiations have started over staging the fight on the Joe Calzaghe-Mikkel Kessler bill in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on 3 November.

"The deal is nearly done," said WBO cruiserweight champion Maccarinelli. "Cunningham has said he'll come over here to fight so let's get it on.

"But I don't mind who I fight next. I'll beat anyone in front of me."

Maccarinelli's stock rose again on Saturday night as he defended his WBO cruiserweight title for the third time with an unanimous points victory over former WBC champion Wayne Braithwaite.

Enzo Maccarinelli has poured scorn on his critics in the aftermath of his successful WBO cruiserweight title defence against Wayne Braithwaite on Saturday night.
The 26-year-old Welshman, who has repeatedly fought off claims he is a one-dimensional fighter throughout his 27-fight career, won his third straight defence of the title by unanimous decision in Cardiff..

Later he dismissed claims that, without the blistering power of his left hook, there is little else in his arsenal to back his credentials as the best.in the division.

After taking 12 rounds of the 'Big Truck's' best shots and returning each punch with ferocious interest, Maccarinelli believes he has made his point.

"I told you so," he told reporters. "I think I have proved a lot of people wrong.

"It's been said that I only have a big left hook, but I showed a lot more than that in there.

"My left hand was good, I hurt him with my right. I used jabs, body shots, the lot.

"I showed I have a solid chin, taking what he gave me because he hit me with some big shots, and I showed stamina and movement.

"I showed I have heart. I hurt my right hand early on, but I kept going and bossed the fight.

"I won every round. It's one of my best, most complete performances.

"I'm pretty delighted with how I fought. The (fifth-round) knockdown was pretty sweet as well.

"I could have finished him off, but it would have been risky. That guy could hit hard so there was no point just charging in for the sake of it.

"I could have been hit with a sucker punch and lost a fight I was bossing.

"These cruiserweights hit as hard as heavyweights, but move like the super-middleweights or light-heavies. I wasn't going to do anything stupid."

The victory has rekindled interest in the mouth-watering prospect of a possible showdown with David Haye.

But having already seen one fight with the Londoner cancelled late in the day, Maccarinelli is not holding his breath.

He added: "I was ready to fight David before but he pulled out. I signed my bit of the contract.

"All he had to do was sign and it would have been the best fight in Britain. He didn't and that was that.

"I'd love to fight him. I've always said that. It would a great fight for the fans between two good fighters, but what can I do if he doesn't sign?"

Maccarinelli is next due to appear at the Millennium Stadium on the undercard of super-middleweight Joe Calzaghe's clash with Mikel Kessler on November 3.

Although it is not yet clear whether he will face IBF champion Steve Cunningham, Maccarinelli say he is happy to take on all comers.

He said: "I'll fight anyone. I feel strong, confident and I've proved what I can do. I don't mind who I fight."

If Maccarinelli was black he'd never be called a 'one-dimensional fighter', instead he would be hailed as the best up and coming cruiserweight fighter in the world, which he is clearly proving.

With Enzo's win we have a white guy in a number of divisions where they could be considered the main-man.Guys,boxing is the best because it's just black vs white and no reliance on dumb-ass black team-mates.You have an idiot like Wayne Braithwaite showboat and Enzo cracks him. It's great.I don't understand how some of you on this board claim to be hardcore fans of your 90% negro teams. It's like Travaris Jackson completes a TD pass to Troy Williamson, they do a silly celebration with other men of colour and you're a hardcore fan of this?

I agree, boxing is the number one sport for whites right now. (Not including hockey) I have given up on football, there are virtually no players to cheer for as far as I'm concerned, basketball is over, and baseball is on the way out.

I try to watch a little, pick out the few whites and root for them but that's just giving into the caste system and it's not much fun.

Right on Speedster, watching football is not only supporting the caste system but celebrating it as well.

It is such a pleasure to watch all of these whites beating up on black fighters in so many weight classes. Blacks in general are really squirming right now as they watch month after month whites ploughing through them and reigning as champions. Of course none of these fighters that loose to whites are any good anyway, all of the good athletes are busy working bay street or something...

Maccarinelli-Haye????

We'll see...

http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=13738&more=1

In other news, WBC and WBA cruiserweight champion David Haye, 20-1 with 19 knockouts, who was reportedly going to enter the heavyweight ranks, is instead entertaining the idea of meeting WBO titlist Enzo Maccarinelli, 28-1 with 21 knockouts in a unification bout in the UK. The fight, which has been discussed ever since Haye knocked out Jean-Marc Mormeck in the seventh round on November 10th, was in jeopardy because Haye insisted that he could no longer make the cruiserweight limit and would only fight Maccarinelli at a catch-weight. However, this past weekend Haye told BBC Sport that he wants the fight to happen.

"People keep telling me to fight Maccarinelli and I say I'm not a cruiserweight. But it's being said so much that I told my manager Adam Booth to do what he can to make it happen."

As for the weight issue Haye said, "I've trained every day since I beat Mormeck to make sure that my weight doesn't go up in the slim chance that the Maccarinelli fight could happen. It's a fight for the fans. It means little to me as I would bowl him over in a couple of rounds. If it doesn't happen I'll be fighting someone very dangerous at heavyweight."

Maccarinelli expressed his enthusiasm for the bout and hopes that it comes off. "It's a fight all of Britain wants to see and I'd take it in Cardiff, in London - anywhere. It's all about Haye, though. I've already signed to fight him twice and nothing has come of it, so whether he's ready to do what he says is another thing."

And in other news Air-Farce lost to a part time cabbie from Dublin. Fraudley still says he is on a mission to win the heavyweight title. Call it Mission Impossible....

I know it was against a weak opponent, but damn he looked good! He is without question a great offensive talent. How he handles return fire is the only issue. I noticed how he borrowed a tactic from his buddy, Calzaghe: throw those little punches upstairs- mostly hitting gloves- to set up a nasty body shot or two. That's exactly what Calzaghe did against Jones, Jr. I can't wait to see him fight someone like Banks.

Enzo Maccarinelli faces Ola Afolabi for the interim WBO cruiserweight title this coming Saturday.

I'm hoping to find an internet stream for this excellent fight card, which includes Cook-Martinez.

I'm expecting Enzo to win by knockout.

Afolabi's biggest win to date was his 10th round stoppage over Eric Fields. If you remember Eric Fields was the "future" of the Cruiserweight division according to Teddy Atlas
