One question is if Bennet is only the third WR next year, how much of a step down is that from being the starter for Minnesota (Tavaris), Tennessee (Vince Young), or Oakland (Jamarcus, maybe?). Put in other terms, would you rather have 40 catches on a well run offense like St. Louis (thats Curtis's numbers last year), or sweat out 50 to 60 on a train wreck offense run by an overhyped black QB.

St. Louis is easily a better choice than Tennessee, Minnesota and Oakland. But not San Francisco, where he would have been the number one receiver on an up and coming team.

But as I posted before on this thread, St. Louis might work out very well for Bennett. He's a tall and fast receiver who is better than Isaac Bruce at this stage of Bruce's career. At worst he'll be the number three receiver on a top passing offense for one year, and may even be the number two at some point in '07. With the money they're paying him it's hard to imagine that he won't play a significant role from the get-go.

I thought taking the money and running, while doing as little as possible to "sacrifice" your body for the fans was what we criticized black athletes for all the time??? If what you're saying is true then maybe Bennett is NFL material!

Black athletes are criticized for a variety of reasons, but they're not to blame for the caste system. I don't blame anyone for taking the money and running or not sacrificing anything for a drunk, fickle fan. I will criticize a player for ridiculous showboating, calling out teammates, beating his girlfriend, raping or killing someone, etc. but not for signing a big contract.

I would think they would be moving Bruce to the slot because he is smaller and a great route runner. Other than guys like Rice, and don't forget Largent, there are not too many better route runners I can think of. Teams usually like to have smaller shifty receivers in the slot. That being said I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce plays slot out of the #2 WR spot on the depth chart like Furrey and Bennett plays 3rd WR. This would be as to not "disrespect" the oft-injured slowing down Ike. I'm not a Rams fan like GSOT, but my impression is that Bruce isn't the same player he was.

Here's an article from USA Today about why Bennett signed with the Rams. The 49ers are not mentioned as being one of the teamsthat was interested in him, only the Titans, Dolphins, Patriots and Vikings. If that's the case he signed with the best team. Some might say the Patriots, but Tom Brady spreads it around to all his receivers like no one else. No one puts up big receiving numbers in that offense.

I can't accept the idea that the Rams were the best option Bennett had, simply because they have an underrated white QB who puts up big numbers. That clearly didn't translate into a great opportunity for Kevin Curtis, who only really had a chance to shine while Isaac Bruce was injured (and despite lighting it up with many big plays that Bruce could never make, Curtis went right back to the bench when the "respected" veteran returned to the lineup, so he could watch Bulger throw passes to his black starting WRs). A few years ago, Brandon Stokely was the #3 WR in the best passing offense in the history of the NFL, and it did absolutely nothing for his career. After his great season (which Bennett will almost certainly not match this year), he quickly signed back on with the Colts instead of seeking a starting job elsewhere. After giving him good money, the Colts basically wrote him out of the offense the next season, in favor of keeping a nondescript black second TE on the field in his place. Tom Brady does like to spread the ball around, but that may be partially due to the fact his WRs have always been second rate. Bennett would be the most talented wideout Brady has had; I have to think he would recognize that and use him a lot. This is as much about perception as it is about future production on the field. I doubt very seriously if Bennett took the fact that Minnesota may start the atrocious Tavarious Jackson at QB into consideration, while the Rams have a white QB like Bulger, when he decided to sign with them. Clearly, Bennett probably buys into the Caste hype as much as any other white male in America, and if anything would consider it a positive if the team he signed with had a black starting QB. My main point is that Bennett was at least considered a #1 WR with the Titans, the only clear cut white #1 WR in the NFL since perhaps Steve Largent. Now, he starts out with the Rams as a #3 WR. I just think that's a completely ludicrous career move, and tantamount to a working stiff willingly seeking out a demotion. I do think Jaxvid's point about white players being reluctant to move to another team, with the analogy of going from one black high school to another, was superb, but in any case Bennett did in fact choose to move to another team. So, if he was going to switch teams anyway, why choose one where he was effectively demoted on the WR pecking order? I'm happy he's getting paid big money, and if they offered more than any other team, you can't blame him for taking it. Let's hope I'm wrong, and he defies the odds and becomes a smashing success.

I'm with this guy. LOSERS are okay being a #3 WR. Winners on the other hand settle for nothing but being the #1 WR. I could never in my wildest dreams imagine a black guy doing this stupid move. Maybe another reason why black people are dominating the NFL is because of loser white attitudes like Bennett's(and Samardjiza).
