Ethan Kilmer, Ryan Lacosse, Tim McGarigle, David Anderson, have all been drafted in the 7th round. Sometimes being drafted this late is worse then not being drafted, as a free agent you can look for teams that will be your best match. These late picks are token picks. There are just there to field a practice team for summer camp.

I looked through the draft and there was 61 white players drafted at my count. 61/255 = .239 so about 24% of the players drafted were white. I think it is about the same as last year. Man this is frustrating. Maybe next year with high profile players such as Zbikowski, Quinn and Samardija coming out hopefully some of this can change but I think it is status quo.

Less than one fourth of the starters in the NFL are white so obviously that won't be increasing anytime soon. So many proven, productive white players were ignored or drafted late at the expense of "projects" and guys who "have trouble keeping their head in the game," not to mention more than a few who compiled criminal records during their days as a college "student." Pathetic.

Listening to the talking heads on ESPN's draft day, I heard them refer to the Falcon's lack of good receivers yet again as an explanation for Vick's malfunction. Chris Mortensen said that Dez White and Jenkins have improved considerably and should help Vick next year, of course without mentioning the #1 receiver on the Falcons, Brian Finneran.

Vick is going into his 6th year in the NFL, and he is still a project. They are considering more shotgun formations and they actually said the Falcons are even considering running some type of option, all in an effort to make Mike Vick a viable NFL quarterback.

There was another black quarterback drafted, I don't remember his name, who was quoted as saying the days of the Mannings and Bradys are over, the future is in athletic, mobile quarterbacks. To my surprise, the talking heads lambasted this guy's quote, but in actuality he isn't saying anything that they themselves haven't said, more than once on TV and talk radio. The problem is none of their pet projects ever pan out. Even the black quarterbacks who have had some success did so only after becoming established pocket passers, like McNabb and McNair.

The whole mobile qb thing has been around for about 10 yrs and they still have not had success. Every year they are supposed to take over. I wish you remember the qb who said because I think that only 3 black qbs were drafted...Young, Jacobs and Jackson.

It was Reggie McNeal of Texas A&M. I read an almost identical quote from Penn State "quarterback" Michael Robinson a few days ago.


And the talking heads who lambasted McNeal were the ones saying the same thing for years going back to the Kordell Stewart era. It's only when it became overwhelmingly obvious even to the Caste System's propagandists that black QBs were going to have to actually throw the ball that white pocket passers began to get some begrudging respect.

oh that mcneal guy is full of himself. i despise him. he will amount to nothing in the NFL. this weekend has not been a good one for me or for most of you I can imagine. I will no longer root for the Steelers after the display this weekend

. I might be back next year to cheer for them if they get posluzny or leonard but I am not holding my breath. This season I will focus more on college I think and just follow all the white players in the nfl. I just feel like a kid disappointed on Christmas morning right now.

Add McNeal, Robinson, Shockley, Marques Hagans, and Brad Smith to that list, too.

I don't know how many other black QB's were drafted, but I'm sure there were more. Some are expected to return kicks and / or play wide receiver, but then you have to remember that these guys were chosen over proven wide receivers like Hass to fill WR slots, when they've never played the position.

In other news, another white player sells himself short. Here is a clip from an ESPN article:

Elvis Dumervil of Louisville, who led the nation in sacks with 20, lasted until the fourth round for the opposite reason. At 5-foot-11 and 258 pounds, he was considered small for a defensive end. He was chosen by Denver with the 29th choice in the fourth round, about a round lower than expected.

Dumervil led the nation in sacks, but is 'happy' he fell to the Broncos in the fourth round.

I know he means that he is happy that the Broncos picked him up instead of another team, but still.. leads the nation in sacks and he goes in the 4th round?

dumervil isnt white...but I was just counting the black qbs that were drafted to play qb.

Dumervil fell because he recorded only one sack his last five games and I believe he had an unimpressive 40 time for someone his size (smallish) for a DE.

I think he had 15 sacks the first three games against subpar competition.

Could somebody please explain the supplemental draft (when's that?) and the "compensatory selection"?

I think the supplemental draft is in june or july. the compensatory selection are picks given to teams when they lose a player in free agency...i think it is supposed to compensate for the loss of the player. i think thats the general idea behind them.

Michael Robinson and Brad Smith weren't drafted as QBs, though, so they don't count. But yes, it is frustrating to see freaking BRAD SMITH drafted ahead of Mike Hass.

I do have some hope for Hass. The Saints are starting with a clean slate, and the new regime seems to at least consider white players. The team is so dreadful that they really have no choice but to give him a chance.

I saw him get plenty of "separation," and I saw him make plenty of "long plays." I don't know what games these tools were watching.

I was really happy to see David Anderson finally get drafted in the final minutes of the 7th round.What a joke!He deserves better.I just hope they give him a chance.David Anderson is a star receiver just like Hass.At least he will have a little better chance of making the team than if he was a unsigned free agent.Good luck to Hass & Anderson.Hopefully,the rest of the guys will get some offers in the coming weeks.I can't believe nobody even considered drafted Hartigan!

I'm surprised Will Derting of Washington St. wasn't drafted and hasn't signed as an FA yet. He's one of the few white guys that seemed to have been hyped since his freshman year.

Gerald Riggs jr wasn't drafted, but he is a poor mans version of Walter Payton's kid. Mike Vick jr wasn't drafted either maybe there is a god after all....

Guys like Kudla, Havner, Busing and others not being drafted is almost as pathetic as Hass not going until the 6th round, Anderson the 7th, and Hinkel not being drafted.


And yeah, it's nice if Reggie Bush put in a plug for Hass to be drafted by the Saints, but oh the irony of it all -- the best running back in the country, who went number two overall, asking his team to draft the best wide receiver in the country, who nearly wasn't drafted at all.
