Let's take over this thread and make it our 'projections' thread.

I don't know enough about college ball to go into the 47th pick or whatever, just the top few. I think:

1 Houston - Reggie Bush
2 New Orleans - Vince Young
3 Tennessee - Mario Williams
4 NY Jet - AJ Hawk
5 Green Bay - D. Ferguson. They should hope that none of the first five take this guy, because the Pack needs O line help.
6 Oakland - Matt Leinart

Leinart could go at #2, I'm just guessing with all the hype that Young will get from last night's performance that he will go higher than Leinart. Any of the other teams could take Leinart as well, depending on how they feel about Carr, Volek, and Pennington.

Any one else see any chance of Leinart dropping to #6? Leinart could easily be the #2, or even #1, if the Texans plan on dumping Carr. Nor would it surprise me if the Titans pass on making Volek their number one, and thats even assuming that McNair will actually retire!

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

If Young goes a little lower than expected it might be due to the lack of success Vick is having. When Vick was in college he was even faster and more dynamic than Young. If a running QB like Vick can't get it done in the NFL why should any GM believe Young will be able to. The era of fast black QB's dies a little more with every bad game Vick has.

There was a great conversation on ESPN radio this afternoon, between Dan Patrick and some other big shot who's name I do not know, we'll call him "Jim."

Jim asked Dan Patrick if, knowing what he knew today, who would he take, Drew Brees or Mike Vick? Of course, I blurted out, to no one in particular, "DREW BREES!" To me, the answer was self-evident. Dan Patrick hesitated, and asked if he could still get LaDanian Tomlinson as part of the deal. They laughed about it, and Dan Patrick said that he would still Mike Vick head to head over Brees, because of his 'potential.' Then they argued that if Vick played for the Chargers and Brees for the Falcons, how good would their respective teams be? How good a quarterback would Brees be were he surrounded by the Falcon's talent?

Of course I think the Falcons would be in the playoffs this year, were Brees running the offense, and the Chargers would be worse off than they are. But thats just me; I could be wrong.

White Shogun, I heard the program today, believe it was Mel Kiper he was talking with. I heard Kiper say Vick may be the most overrated player in the league and a lot of people have expressed that opinion. He also said to Dan, " Come on, you would take Brees over Vick wouldn't you?" Then Dan made the comments you attributed to him. To prefer Vick over Brees after what he has shown in San Diego is utter lunacy!! Only a suck-up would choose Vick.

The Brees / Tomlinson for Mick Vick trade isn't as much of a theft as the Vikings for Herschel Walker trade, but its damn close.

Great quote from an ESPN article:

If Young isn't the third pick in the draft, he can blame Michael Vick.

This morning on the cold pizza show(which I'm not familiar with so don't know any of the yakkers) one of them, referrring to Young said some teams would be scared of drafting him fearing him to maybe be a Vick. It seems that what has been apparent to castefootballers for an age is finally being recognized by some of the lemmings.

I'd be interested to know when Dan Patrick would start/stop the clock running on potential for an NFL qb.

Is Vince Young even entering the draft?

I heard during the the USC/ Texans game that he had personally told one of the announcers he was coming back for one more year of college.

1 Houston - Reggie Bush
2 New Orleans - Vince Young
3 Tennessee - Mario Williams
4 NY Jet - AJ Hawk
5 Green Bay - D. Ferguson. They should hope that none of the first five take this guy, because the Pack needs O line help.
6 Oakland - Matt Leinart

I doubt the Jets pass up on Leinart, it is very doubtful in my mind that Pennington can come back (in fact I have been thinking of starting a thread titled Pennington, Brees, Turley... will they be back?)

If he were to fall to the Oakland Faders I guess they may take him but remember they have Tuiasosopo who they may use as the QB.

After that last Rose bowl Vince Young HAS to enter the draft THIS YEAR even if it's just to take the money and run (ala Ryan Leaf) anything else is selling himself short.

Besides if he goes back to college he not only has to worry about injuries but whether or not the Vick brothers start wearing clown makeup again.

Yes the Young/Vick link is outragously unfair but to deny it exists is sheer stupidity (kind of like the caste system now that I think about it.)

From John Clayton's latest piece on ESPN Insider:

"Vince Young's strong performance in the Rose Bowl has caused a big stir in the Houston Texans' front office. They were all planning to make Reggie Bush the No. 1 selection in the draft once he applies to come into the NFL. Now, if Young turns pro, they suddenly have to do more thinking about it. Young is too popular a player in the Houston area to pass up. The plan was to draft Bush and then exercise an $8 million option on David Carr's contract, giving them a franchise quarterback and a franchise halfback. Now, Young is going to create a fan frenzy. The decision on the first pick in the draft isn't going to be as easy as first thought. "

Do any of you remember how many white players were picked in the first round last year? And do you think the number of whites picked in the first round will improve this year?

Un-bee-lievable.

Carr needs an o-line and a decent back and he might play more consistently. So instead, let's draft ANOTHER rookie quarterback, with little or no supporting cast, and let HIM take a beating for the next 3-4 years.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Houston select Vince Young.
Charlie Casserly is the biggest idiot in the NFL, and that's not an
easy "honor" to achieve, considering all the competition. Casserly has
absolutely refused to give David Carr anything at all, in order to
allow him to succeed. They should draft the huge offensive tackle
(D'Brickashaw something), who is ranked very high, but Casserly would
never do that. He will draft whoever the experts say should be the
number one pick. I'd like to see Carr go somewhere else, where
his talents would be appreciated, but realistically, I know that if he
is released by Houston, he may not get a chance anywhere else, ala Tim
Couch.

Dan Patrick is a tool. He's a pansy who never actually played sports and thinks he a know it all.

Just when we have just about buried the myth of the great mike vick,,,here comes a bigger stronger version into the draft by the name of vince young. He declared for the nfl draft today....he may be a great one someday...but God spare us from all the hype before he even steps out on to the nfl field. Question....don't you think there is no way the new orleans saints with their early pick could land either leinart or young without them Pulling a "eli manning" on them an demand a trade. Why would either one of those guys want to play for a homeless team?

Actually, I think the hype on Young isn't going to be as bad as it was for Vick, mainly because even the media and sports pundits have realized that Vick 'ain't all that.' I think Vick's recent plummet from stardom has tarnished the myth of the superstar mobile black quarterback.

There are already sports writers pointing out Young's unorthodox throwing motion, his lack of time in an NFL-type offense, and the greater speed of NFL defensive players, all of which have tempered expectations a bit.

I admit, I fell victim to the Young hyperbole the day after the game. I expected his praises to be sung til his first flop on the field and then some, but it seems like now cooler heads are prevailing and teams are taking a more cautious approach to Young as a viable NFL quarterback.

I hope you are right about young, I'm watching the bengals game as I write this and bengals wr kevin walter may have a breakout game today as he had two big catches to lead the bengals to their first touchdown. They have lost palmer and and one of their wr's (perry) to injury. Kittna is in and he is probably used to throwing to walter in practice.

Everyone is saying how much better a passer Young is than when Vick was in college but I looked up the stats and Vick had a better passer rating his freshman year in college than Young had this year. In fact, he holds the record for a freshman. Vick was hurt his Soph year and then came to the NFL. Young will not even match Vick's success in the NFL. Vick also has a very good team around him, Young will not.

The pressure is overwhelming in Houston for the Texans to draft Young. I was talking to some friends of mine that are season ticket holders and they are threatening to sell their tickets if the Texans don't draft Young (btw, they are all UT grads). All of the sportstalk stations and the Houston Chronicle are all on the Young bandwagon. I suggested that the Texans should trade down the draft and take AJ Hawk and see if they couldn't get some 2nd and 3rd round picks and get some O-line players. My friends looked at me like I was crazy. The Texans are weak on O-line and linebackers and they aren't going to get better unless they shore up those positions, but everyone around here thinks that Young is the savior. The Texans are in a no-win (literally) situation.
