Although I have not been a member for an extensive period of time, it seems I have never seen any mention of Doug dewitt. Maybe there has been passing references and I just missed it. But he was a fine middleweight champion back in the 80's when a white champion was as rare as a hurricane hitting southern california.

Doug DeWitt was a very good fighter from Yonkers, NY. He fought Tommy Hearns when almost no opponent could go the distance. DeWitt not only went the distance but was competitive but losing the decision. He then went on the win a world middle weight championship. After retiring , he opened a gym in Scarsdale, NY. It was not a traditional boxing gym but catered to the "white collar" boxer and had mostly non boxing workout equipment and classes. I was dying to get a personal boxing session with Doug . I would've paid just to talk to him for an hour. Unfortunately , I didn't have the money at the time. Darthvader you hit the nail on the head. Although he was a white world champion, almost no one noticed him at the time and very few boxing fans know of him.

He won the WBO middleweight belt in a bout with Robbie Sims who was the younger half brother of Marvin Hagler. I know he made a successful defense against Matthew Hilton on a PPV undercard(maybe Foreman vs Cooney). Dougie later lost the title to Nigel Benn. He was gritty and had underrated boxing skills. The reason why Dewitt had recognition problems is because the WBO was in it's infancy and wasn't viewed as true world belt at the time. It was similar to the early days of the IBF.

I remember Doug. He was a B+ fighter who gave Hearns all he could ask for. The reason he never got the notereity was because he could not capitalize on the big fights he had. If he would beat or KO'd Hearns he would have had a bigger name.

Doug was a good fighter who feared no black man, I wish I could say that about alot of esmasculated whites who get drunk and eat salted snacks(this from another poster) and go to NFL games and cheer ex convicts and bad mouth white players. White people we have problems. I fear these same people will vote blindly for the Black Marxist. God Help us!

I remember watching Doug DeWitt along with Alan Minter, Bobby Chez,Vito Antafermo. These were some of the men I began to idolize as a young lad still in my teens. For the most part, I was able to watch them on regular television (not pay per view, cable or Dish) on Fridays and Saturdays as they went to war against the caste system while putting on heroic displays of grit, talent and skill. Special mention goes out to Indian "Little Red" Lopez, another man with the heart of a lion. It was good stuff back then, but I guess that's what all old guys say...
