Pirog seems to be a quicker, more skillful fighter than Oral, but will he be treated fairly by the officials on a Arena Boxpromotions card?

Strange things sometimes happen when Oner is involved.

Kofi Jantuah, who was born in Ghana, is the right opponent to enable us to better evaluate Pirog.

Jantuah KOed Kelly Pavlik's last opponent, Marco Antonio Rubio, in round 1 a few years ago. But Kofi was defeated by wide UD in 2006 by Arthur Abraham. Edited by: JD1986

There is a new white star at middleweight:

Middleweight Dmitry Pirog (14-0, 11 KOs), who was previously ranked #3 by the WBO and #14 by the WBC, presented a world-class masterpiece in dismantling former two-time world title challenger Kofi Jantuah (32-4-1, 21 KOs) over twelve one-sided rounds. Pirog showed both tremendous technique and good stamina to continue his powerful assaults throughout the whole card. Dmitry connected numerously with his uppercuts, adding huge left and overhand right hooks on several occasions. He was almost flawless in his defence, neglecting rare Ghanaian left hooks and using body movement to avoid Jantuah's right hands. Pirog got tired a bit in the mid rounds but he just couldn't stop delivering bombs. The Ghanaian fighter, however, showed an enormously armed chin to take so many Pirog's punches. The only moment he got was at the very end of the twelfth round but it was only enough to wobble Pirog slightly and the Russian fighter, delivering the best performance of his pro career, easily survived till the end. At the end, all three judges had it loopsidedly for Pirog. Fightnews scored it 119-110 for the Russian, who is expected to rise high in ranks. Pirog is the new WBC international middleweight titlist as well.

Dmitry Pirog will be Pavlik's WBO mandatory, if he can get past Eric Mitchell this weekend.

Mitchell is a strong puncher - he has an early KO win over former IBF 168 titleholder Berrio - but Dmitry has better boxing skills.

Dmitry Pirog won today by 5th round TKO. It was the first time Eric Mitchell has ever been stopped.

From fightnews:

"Middleweight prospect Dmitry Pirog (15-0, 12 KOs) became the first one to stop tough American competitor Eric Mitchell (22-7-1, 11 KOs) inside the scheduled distance. Mitchell gave WBO #2, WBC #4 Pirog fits in the first two rounds but then gradually succumbed to the combinational power and diversity of the Russian contender. The contest was stopped at 1:07 of the fifth round, when Mitchell signaled he was in no condition to continue. Pirog reportedly became the WBO mandatory challenger after this victory."

This is one to look forward to!

Jacobs is very fast and is fighting in his home country on his promoter's card, so it will not be easy for Pirog to win. Dmitry will lose if it goes to the cards (Golden Boy showed how they pay off boxing judges with the Guzman-Funeka I robbery).

I hope Pirog goes to Las Vegas at least three weeks before the fight to become completely adjusted to the time zone change.

Thanks for your constant updates to the boxing thread, Parody. Prior to discovering CF, I had completely lost interest in boxing, as I had little desire to watch darker-hued individuals preening and posturing, which is all I noticed on broadcast TV. Now that I know where to look, and the massive upswell of white boxing talent, it's becoming entertaining once again. I look forward to this fight, I've marked my calendar!

Have your seen Pirog fight?  How is his hand speed?
He has good handspeed and uses lateral movement, and throws some skillful and creative combinations.

Here's a video for download of Dmitry Pirog vs. Kofi Jantuah.

Jantuah has a KO 1 win over Pavlik opponent Rubio, but Pirog seemed to handle him with ease.

Now that you mentioned Pavlik it will be interesting to see if he can revive his career? If we saw the same Kelly Pavlik in the ring that fought Jermain Taylor, Hopkins and Martinez would have no chance. Unfortunately that wasn't the same Kelly.

Someone like Librado Andrade would be a good comeback opponent for Pavlik.

Lucian Bute would spell the end of Pavlik.  I hope he doesn't go that route.

HBO's Ross Greenburg wants that fight. Maybe it's because he wants to get rid of a good white fighter.

I wouldn't be surprised. Also as I mentioned before just wait and see what the Al Bernstein's of the boxing world will be doing to white fighters in the near future. After the fall of their two "stars" Salita and Foreman, the Klitschko's,Pavlik's and Povetkin's of the boxing scene will be bashed even more.
