I usually watch this in the summertime because I live close to the
speedway. The track is smaller, and it's almost guaranteed you'll see
some crashes. It's a lot cheaper than to see a ballgame, that's
why I think the motorsports are gaining popularity. Plus, you get
some idiots out there that don't know how to race, and that adds to the
enjoyment. If you don't know what I'm talking about here is a

I wasn't into it at first, but it has grown on me seeing it firsthand.
A lot of people don't like calling this a sport, but it beats some guy
dunking a basket. You're more involved hearing the loud noise of the
engine. This year I will probably have seen more races than
hockey games which is quite a lot.



I think autoracing has been stereotyped as a redneck sport which is
fine by me because it's still probably cleaner fun than going to
a basketbrawl game.



Its also great because it's too loud to hear the other guy talk about
work or some unrelated topics during the event. Don't you hate when
you're at a baseball game and there is someone trying to act important,
talking on and on.

Finally, someone brings up a truly Southern sport, or at least it started that way. I used to go to the races all the time. It is fun to see. In fact, last night I went to a Monster Truck race. It's usually a much more enjoyable experience as you say, and your right there, getting the dirt on your face. On the other hand, the dangers of the sport are always present, at least in my mind. When I was 7 I saw a bad wreck and crash where several spectators were killed, and it's something I'll never forget. Even so, car racing is a cool sport, even though NASCAR has become a PC bore ever since the late 1988 when Bill Elliot's Thunderbird dominated so much NASCAR began to require the use of restrictor plates. The NASCAR brass never liked a Ford to dominate the sport, even though they did very often. Go look at the record books. Ever since then, it hasn't been real racing to me, just corporate advertising with wheels.

They had a bad accident happen at the track I go to a few years ago so
they put up a fence. I still think if one of those car's got out of
control it still would do a lot of damage. There is dangers anywhere
you go really, look at the person who got killed by a puck a few years
ago. I guess if it's your time to go its your time to go. NASCAR
is way too long for me to watch on television I'd have to be right
there. A lot of people around here are into NASCAR now in central
Illinois. Just farmland around here, and mostly corn. Nothing else to
do on a Saturday night , but to watch racing.

Yep, the wreck I saw involved a car going over the 12' fence and landing on a Lincoln with about 6 or 7 people on top of it. It was horrible. As for NASCAR, I haven't watched it much since about 1990. I know all about the "nothing to do" part here in the Mississippi Delta. Camping is always a good idea, as long as the mosquitos aren't out.

Just went last night and had a blast even though it was a bit colder than I expected. It was worth it cause I saw some cool crashes where no one was hurt but the cars.

It was pretty cold the last two days here. Maybe I'll get up to the track in a couple of weeks.

I been going every week this year. The price might be steep for some who aren't into car racing, $10 to get in. The crowd is majorly white, but maybe that's because the towns surrounding the track is as well. Anyway, the race I saw was on ESPN 2 just a few days ago. My friend said you couldn't see us though.
