They're complaining about the current 'depression,' when that city has been going down hill since the 1950's.

Detroit is a terrible place to live. The black population is close to 90 percent. There are just tons of abandoned buildings, incredible amounts of violence, and high unemployment. This has to do with the extremely high black population. However blacks refuse to accept responsibility for what they have done. They constantly blame whites for lack of job opportunities and that whites are forcing them into the ghettos.

What's the situation like in areas outside of Detroit? Here in New Jersey, we have Newark, which also had the riots of 1967. Newark is sort of like a smaller-scale version of Detroit, but probably not as toxic.

You would think after all those bills designed to help the blacks in the mid '60s happened they would maintain some sort of civility but I guess nature didn't intend for them to live amongst whites. My parents both lived in Brooklyn in the '50s and '60s when blacks and Puerto Ricans were moving in and said they were nothing but menaces, with the schwartzes beating my mother up sometimes when she was young. Now I can see why "white flight" was inevitable.

Beleive it or not, Detroit was a actually THE MOST productive city in a America at one time. Being that it was the sanchor of the American auto industry, it was an industrial mecca. But now, well, you know...

I live in NJ too. Don't forget about Camden, Jersey City and Atlantic City. Jersey City is getting a little better with all the yuppies moving in and upping property value, but Camden and A.C. are still sh*tholes.

Jersey City has gotten yuppified in the past decade. I worked there in the late '90s; the area I worked in wasn't too horrible; it was a mixture of Polish, Latin and Indian mostly. You could be white and be around the area without fearing your life. Never been to Camden or AC; Asbury Park is supposedly cleaning up but when I drove through the area the last few times it was still a merde-hole.

Paterson is another NJ garbage dump. Passaic county is now predominantly hispanic. Yes more hispanics than whites in Passaic country now. Seems like the demographics of alot of areas are changing and fast.

I have some family North of the Motor City. It's a shame to see how NAFTA & the gutting of the U.S. manufacturing industry have crippled our Industrial base & cities like Detroit. Fyi, my Dad said there was only isolated section of blacks back in the day there, whereas now they've taken over the city.

Detroit is similar to Baghdad, without militia men running amok. 18K for a house is a joke. The average car costs more and has more value.......
