I understand the poor guy broke his neck. I hope, for his sake, his spinal cord is not severed, as it would be horrible if he were paralyzed.
I remember when I was in 7th grade and Travis Roy, of the Boston University Terriers hockey team, broke his neck during a game. He is, unfortunately, paralyzed as some of you may know, but he is reported to be gaining upperbody movement again slowly. I saw that incident on T.V. while watching the game with my dad, and before Travis even hit the ice completely, I heard my father say, "Oh Christ, he broke his neck".
As a 12 year old, the incident traumatized me, and made me always skate with my head up and on a swivel at all times. When lifting at the gym, I'd actually set some time aside for training my neck during workouts. It was a horrible thing to see happen, as it actually gave me nightmares when I was younger. The fear of it actually happening still terrifies me to this day. Even in college hockey games, I was hesitant and shaky when heading into the corners, full speed, to challenge an opponent for the puck.
