Today, I have watched ESPN Sportscenter and ESPN News and there is barely a mention of the failed drug test by Justin Gatlin. The Floyd Landis failed drug test story broke four days ago and they are still talking about it. On ESPN News, they are running a story about Mark McGwire and steroid use. That story is ancient history. There is definitely a double standard working here.

Landis got caught like Ben Johnson, right at the moment he won the biggest prize in his sport. If you are old enough to recall 88', the hype around him being caught was huge. Gatlin got caught in minor meet early in the season. Anyway they all are maggots to me...

Another thing to keep in mind is that very few people were surprised by Gatlin testing positive. His coach is being investigated as part of the Balco case, remember.
Landis on the other hand was the great American hero overcoming impossible odds. He HAD to be clean, right?
Of course cycling is just as a dirty a sport as track and field but you average Joe on the street wouldn't know or care about that. Landis was probably doped up as was every single racer in the Tour de Farce. Still somebody has to be the scapegoat and they could never catch Lance Armstrong, could they?
