Colt McCoy signs with the Browns.

I just wanted to start a thread about this freshman qb from Texas.He has them ranked in the top 5 and they get better by the week.Colt is so good under pressure.He already set the all time Texas Single Game T.D. Record with 6 last week.Today he went into Nebraska and defeated a very strong Cornhuskers Team.This kid will be way better than Vince Young was.

McCoy is good. Not great. I dont believe that he will start next year.

Jevan Snead (6'3") is a true freshman. He is a running quarterback. Snead runs the 40 in 5.61 seconds. Moreover, like most white QB's he also can drop back and pass well, especially on the out-routs. Along with Tim Tebow, Jevan Snead is the best young college running QB in the country.

Texas also has a kid by the name of John Brantly comming in next year. Brantly is supposed to be one of the top prospects in the country. He is not a really running QB but is supposed to have the best arm of all prospects. Some believe he is the best avalible. And while not a "dual threat" QB Brantly is not unathletic as he runs the 40 in 4.7 seconds. I believe his abilities are under rated. He is also 6'3".

Colt McCoy is only 6'1". McCoy is also not very athletic as he runs the 40 in 4.8 seconds. At 6'1" McCoy should be down at a 4.6 in my opionion. McCoy also doesnt have the strongest arm in the world. However, he is very smart and is definatly accurate. He doesnt make stupid mistakes, especially for his age. He could start at most any program in the country but Mac Brown has too many better tallents lined up.

McCoy is for real, OC. Snead, also very good, is already looking to transfer out of Texas after the season (rumors have him looking at Houston and UTEP).

UT also has a true freshman named Sherrod Harris (black) who is red-shirting this season and waiting in the wings as well.

Colt's numbers thus far: 170 completes in 246 attempts for 2,051 yards; 4 interceptions, 27 TDS (two shy of the NCAA freshman record), 69.1% completion mark. He also has 180-yards rushing.

Yeah McCoy's only bad game was against Ohio St he's been solid the whole year. He's doing especially good considering he's only a red shirt freshman. Definilty 1st Rd NFL material.

I need to do a better job checking my facts. Colt McCoy is indeed 6'3". He was 6'1" as a junior in high school.

Good to hear Jevan Snead is heading out. He will be effective somewhere that he is truely needed. As for Brantly, after these recent performances by McCoy; he had better look elsewhere.

It looks like Mac Brown has his eye on a good 6'6" white running QB who can run the 40 in 4.6 seconds. He is listed on Rivals.com but he is currently only a junior in high school. This guy could back take over the starting job as soon a McCoy goes into the NFL in the 2009 draft.

would Snead be able to play another position? WR or RB maybe? that way, he'd still make a lot of plays with the ball in his hands which is the next best thing to playing QB... and can you imagine the play-calling possibilities with a former QB/current RB taking handoffs? wow! every time you'd run a sweep or a toss, there would be a threat of a halfback pass so the safeties would have to stay deep... my mind is aswirl with the possibilities!

Snead is a big time QB Recruit.... 4 or 5 star Rivals etc... i dont think hes going to be moving positions as he has an absolute Cannon of an arm and is accurate to booth.


Colt McCoy after this years performances has to be untouchable at Texas...The Guy will lead the Longhorns to another National Championship before he finishes there.


I would prefer it if Snead transferred to a place like UTEP or Houston... he would really bring a team like that on.

For those of you who missed it, McCoy went down with a shoulder after the first possession of the K-State game and Snead came in for the restb of the game.

Snead played well enough to win the game. Though he sailed some passes high, that has to be balanced with the five or six good throws he had that were plain dropped.

In Jevan stays, Texas will have a capable backup, if he goes, someone will have a fine starter.

Update on McCoy in 2008:

Colt came into last night's Colorado game completing 80 percent of his passes and was the Longhorn's leading rusher(!). Against Arkansas he made a great sprint for the flag and scored.

This kid is one of the best roll-out passers I've ever seen. He can really hum it from either side. He also has really good speed and is much stronger this year.

Texas v OU this Saturday should test McCoy.

As evidenced by the fact he averages over 8 yards a carry as a QB. He's the white Vince Young at UT but doesn't get nearly the attention despite incredible numbers. That could change if he gets by Oklahoma and plays well in the annual rivalry game UT vs OU. Two undefeated top five teams, it should be a classic. Jordan Shipley is another fast athletic white WR to watch when UT plays.

UT is a good team to watch, but they need to turn Brock Fitzhenry into a scat back in a duel threat backfield. Then they'd really be a team to watch like Kansas. Fitzhenry is as quick as a hiccup and is shifty like a jitterbug, to top it off he has 4.41 speed. However at only 5'9 UT plans on trying him in a Wes Welker type role which is better than nothing.

But speaking of coaching speed; WVU player Jordan Roberts only ran something like a 5.2 40 freshman year of H.S and then turned into a 4.46 guy by his senior year from using a herculean type workout regiment. Roberts is kind of like a faster version of Kyle Bell before the injury, (not "super" shifty, but phenomenal everywhere else). Yet Roberts had to walk on for West Virginia despite breaking the WV single season h.s rushing record and running for 11.8 YPC and squating 555 lbs.

Good analogy Guest, calling McCoy the white Vince Young, from a college standpoint I agree.

I was one that thought that Vince Young would turn into a good starting NFL QB from watching him take over the championship game like he did. He also showed some promise with his arm in college too. From the looks of Young, in his now third season, it looks like I was wrong. McCoy is Vince Young with more accuracy! But McCoy isn't even ranked in the top 5 for his class by NFLdraftscout.com. It's probably his arm strength and height again, the old Eric Crouch excuse.

This article instantly caught my eye. While is gives McCoy props, its main focus is how his teammates refer to him as "McBoy" and how he went through a full season (or more maybe) of being constantly picked on. Seriously, they call him boy! I bet Vince Young never went through this crap. He was probably nurtured and worshiped at Texas. No tough love for Vince I'm sure. Maybe tough love would've prepared Mr. Young for the NFL where he is constantly "picked on".

That's why no white man should ever allow himself to be called a boy unless it's some kind of old school coach who calls everybody(blacks included) younger than him a boy. Alot of the time the term "white boy" is not meant as a insult and more like a cool thing to say in modern culture but other times like the one posted above it is a insult. So any white man called this should quickly object and stand up for himself and of course point out the double standard about how no black man can be referred too as a boy.

Great article in this week's Sports Illustrated about all the great gunslinging qb's in the Big 12. Chase Daniel Todd Reesing, Colt Mccoy, and Grahma Harrell were all mentioned along with Oklahoma's Sam Bradford. Interesting how most of these guys were not recruited by the "Big" teams Ex. Daniel and Reesing. Also i found it intersting that all were white, and they all have uncanny cool under pressure, something blacks may not be the best at!

They forget about Oklahoma State spread-offense master Zac Robinson, who suplanted uber-recruit Bobby Reid last year and has comparable statistic to all these other guys, plus some nice rushing yards.

For the season, he's completing 79.4 percent of his passes.

The Heisman trophy is Colt's to lose at this point. Phenominal drop dead statistics on the #1 ranked team. Just finish out strong and it belongs to him and then go to the NFL and show Vince how it's done.

I'm an OU fan and am embarrassed by Stoops' pure dedication to the caste system. In ten years I can't remember a single white starter in the secondary or at wide receiver. When he does allow a White to start at linebacker or d-line, they are typically All-American (Rocky Calmus, Teddy Lehman, Dan Cody, Kelly Gregg). This years coal black,"superathletic"defense got schooled by Texas. Particularly dominating was Texas mostly white offensive line, Shipley, and Colt McCoy. They couldn't catch McCoy until he was out of bounds. Hats off to McCoy, he was too good.

That description of McCoy is so commonplace for white athletes. He's not this, he doesn't have the greatest that. . . then wonderment that the player somehow is as good as he is.


Sporting News has an article on the Tennessee Titans this weekin which Kerry Collins is described as "not having the strongest arm," among other negatives. If he doesn't have the strongest arm in the NFL it's in the upper tier. It's like saying of receivers like, say, Santonio Holmes or Devin Hester, "he's not the fastest receiver in the league," playing down that which is actually a strength.
