Bouncing between the NFL and the Pac 12 Network game of Arizona-Illinois I got my best look yet at Nico Mannion. He was brilliant tonight as the crowd was whipped into a frenzy. His parents were there cheering him on. Several electric plays in a win going away.

He is a little taller but he actually reminds me of ex Georgia Tech guard Kenny Anderson who starred at Georgia Tech and was the second overall pick in the 1991 draft. Anderson at the time was a flashy star and I think it surprised people when he didn't turn into a superstar in the NBA.

Not sure what the ultimate fate of Mannion will be but he looks like a keeper from this distance. He finished up with 23 points 3 rebounds and 9 assists. He has tremendous full court speed so when Arizona gets out on a break he is at his most exciting.

Watching the Pac 12 Network is like watching games underwater because they don't offer HD. I also wonder if fellow red head Bill Walton ends up doing some Arizona games. He usually announces mostly Pac 12 games. Curious to hear what he thinks of Nico?

Iowa (1-1) got thumped by DePaul (4-0) last night.

the young Hawkeyes didn’t get it done on either end of the court, shooting just over 40% from the floor and committing 19 turnovers (to just 12 assists) while giving up over 60% shooting to their opponent who had a better than 1-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

definitely a wake up call for what it takes to play at this level for these talented youngsters. hopefully, they’ll bounce back strong.

tonight’s games feature the talented (and deep) frontline of Gonzaga (Kispert, Petrusev, Timme, and Zakharov, though Tillie is still out), as well as the all-blue-collar Utah State Gym Rats.

Kentucky loses, and on the front page of MSM is the lone white Sestina alone in a zoomed in photo with a black Evansville guard.

Utah State starts 5 whites and only plays one black. However their best player is a giant African, not sure if he is hurt or suspended?

Good to see an early Kentucky loss! @DWF Upside idk I'd say Sam Merrill is Utah State's best player, but point taken.

@Jimmy Chitwood ya it's tough to win a game with that many turnovers! Looking forward to catching Iowa games throughout the year. They should progress.

Corey Kispert is averaging 19.3 points per game for the #8 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs!

Also, I have no idea who this “giant African” on Utah State is but I can assure you that he is not their best player. As Bucky said, that honor goes to Sam Merrill. Sam averaged 21 ppg last year and 16 the season prior. This year he’s right back where he left off. Brock Miller, who scored 27 points last night, is also pretty darn good.

Speaking of Gonzaga big man Filip Petrusev is off to a great start too. He had a 19 point 15 rebound game last night and Kispert had 20. Petrusev is definitely on the NBA radar.

Plus freshman PF Drew Timme had 16 last night and has been stellar so far. Two young bench players with promise are C Pavel Zakharov and swing Martynas Arlauskas. What a turn around from the caste heavy team from last season. And as noted injury prone Killian Tillie hasn't made an appearance yet.

Kentucky got upset at home, see above, against Evansville. But transfer Nate Sestina started and was 2-4 and finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds. He was one of the better KY players last night. They stunk up the joint. It is early though.

Duke pounded away with Alex O'Connell starting and going 4-9 for 10 points. Jack White also started. Joey Baker had 6 off the bench so maybe he is getting into the rotation? Matt Hurt had his best game yet going 3-3 from three and finishing with 19 points and 4 rebounds.

the big African by way of Portugal is Something Queta. (Im not in the habit of spelling out ridiculous African names.) He was the conference freshman of the year and defensive player of the year who decided to skip the draft and come back to school. You could make a case for Merrill as still the better player, but that doesnt change the fact that they have a 7 foot gorilla that is a monster in the post. In case you haven't realized this Im not happy about this and hope he doesnt play, but ignoring his existence is not the way to go.

I’ve never heard of the guy but maybe I should have. Thanks for the information.

Shows what the NBA values, if some upsider who had a decent freshman year in a small conference is a sure fire draftee while a guy like Merrill dominates on the same team and conference for 2 straight seasons and he won’t get a sniff. Hopefully this Portuguese invader flops when he eventually returns from injury.

Guys, thanks for the updates. Where is Jack Lambert? I believe he was last heard from in April. He was a really good College Basketball poster.
If you're out there Jack, let us know.

Gonzaga blitzed all-black Texas A&M by 30, putting the game away with a 20-0 run in the first half after trailing 11-14. the Zags didn’t look like a finished product, but they’re big and they’re talented. and their front line is DEEP.

the Pale Riders of Iowa bounced back with a win, with 6 gym rats playing over 20 minutes (including all 5 starters) and 5 of the 6 scored in double figures, led by junior center Luke Garza’s 30.

Utah State cruised again, this time crushing all-black NCA&T.

A few more notes form last night. Utah squeaked by Minnesota. I forgot to mention yet another young white stud on their roster, Finnish import PF Mikael Jauntunen is described as very athletic.

Kansas is caste but freshman Christian Braun came off the bench and went 4-4 from the field including 3 three pointers for 11 points.

BYU who is mainly white beat Houston at Houston on a last second shot by Tyler Haws. Off balance nice bounce game ender. See below.

Duke struggled at home but won. They are routinely starting two white players and rotating two off the bench. Out of them only Joey Baker had a decent game and he had his best game yet with 8 points off the bench in fifteen minutes. I am rooting for Duke because this team is much whiter than their ballyhooed team from last year.

the Belmont Bruins have traditionally been a White-friendly team, and this year they possibly should be rechristened the Polar Bears, as 4/5 starters are melanin-deficient as well as their top man off the bench.

at any rate, the light-skinned Belmont Bruins (Polar Bears?) lit up *pun* previously undefeated Boston College, scoring 100 points in the win.

sophomore guard Adam Kunkel torched the nets for 35 points in 29 minutes, his second-consecutive impressive offensive outing.

while not usually a media-hyped program, they are certainly a team to cheer for.

Nice early season win for their Tournament resume!

I wanted to show some Iowa Hawkeye Basketball hilights. I think at this board they are the most popular college football & basketball team and for a good reason!

A nice game by my favorite college player tonight. Matt McClung had 25 pts to lead Georgetown to the win.
