Parker Van Dyke nails 3-pointer as time expires against UCLA
The senior wing went on the road and helped Belmont keep its at-large case respectable thanks to wins at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. The Bruins are 19-4 and coach Rick Byrd seems to have one of his best teams ever.
Windler averaged 30.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals last week, highlighted by a career-high 41 points in the 96-86 win against Morehead State. In that game, Windler hit eight 3-pointers. The 41 is one point short of Belmont's single-game record since the program went to Division I in 1999-00.
In the previous game, Windler has 20 points and 14 boards against EKU. Per Belmont, Windler is the only player in college basketball putting up better than 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. (His exact averages: 20.3, 10.3, 2.6.)
With a true shooting percentage of 64.7, Windler is one of the more efficient players in college basketball. Plus, he ranks as one of the elite defensive rebounders, grabbing 25.5 percent of Belmont's boards on that end of the floor when he's in the game.
Miller, himself a former overachiever who could flat out fill it up, in an (i’m assuming) obviously boring and blue collar way, has gone out of his way to ignore players who look anything like the player he himself was. that being said, the 9th and 10th players to see the court tonight for Indiana were of the gym rat variety, including 6-foot-10 senior forward Evan Fitzner who promptly ignited his team with 6 quick points and a rebound. one wonders how this probable-racist was allowed to play.
Iowa is ranked in the Top 25, #21 if i recall correctly. the Hawkeyes need to figure out what has gone wrong with their offense, though, as they have really struggled, requiring late game/last second heroics from Bohannon (twice) and Weiskamp (once) in their last three wins (sandwiched around their loss to Maryland).
in related news, did you hear that Iowa’s basketball announcer was suspended for the remainder of the season for saying the big post player from Maryland was King Kong at the end of the game. he, of course, grovellingly apologized and said he would seek aid in “dealing with his unconscious bias.”
it seems we are surrounded by losers and cowards.
if you want an under-the-radar prospect with out of the world athleticism and “upside,” then the name Daulton Hommes is for you. Hommes is a late-blooming, 6-foot-8 shooting guard who can jump out of the gym and fill up the stat sheet. a junior, he plays at a tiny school out West where he is scoring better than 22 a game while shooting WELL above the dream-line of 50-40-80 from the various marks (field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and free throw percentage for the non-hoopers among us). he’s also effective on the glass and as a rim protector.
rumor has it that he’s eligible to transfer after the season and be immediately eligible, and (just to give credence to my hype) at least a third of NBA teams have sent scouts to check him out. the best part about him, other than his eye-popping offensive repertoire that is, is the fact that he’s still very much learning to play in his body. he’s a true late bloomer. for example, he’s grown another inch since the video below from last year.
