2023 Outdoors: Cole Beck opened up the season with a nice time of 10.35 at the Pepsi Florida Relays. He was just getting starting
with what would be an EPIC SEASON! On May 4th he ran a wind legal time of 10.24 at the LIberty Twilight Qualifier. Now he was ready
for the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. On May 13 he ran a fast time of 10.14 +0.7 wind. The very next day he followed that
time up with another wind legal time of 10.17 to qualify for the NCAA Division 1 East Finals. Cole Beck was one of the fastest sprinters
on the whole east portion of America! This is where he absolutely exploded onto the national scene in a big way!

2023 NCAA Divison I East Finals: The NCAA Div. I East Finals were held at Jax Track in the Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville Glorida.
Cole Beck opened up with a blazing time of 10.05 to move on to the 2nd round. this was a new personal best as it was wind legal.
In the second round he shocked the world. Cole Beck ran a EYE POPPING INCREDIBLE TIME of 9.87! This was Cole Becks first sub
10 and even though it was windy very few spritnters on earth have the leg turnover ratio to run that fast. Simply phenomenal. His 10.05
previously was the new school record the Beck had set but this 9.87 would have to have a W next to it as the wind was over the allowable
amound of 2.0. Still very few men have ever run this fast with or without the wind! Beck now had qualified for the NCAA National Champs!

NCAA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships: THe NCAA Outdoor Championships were held at Mike Myers Stadium in Texas.
Cole Beck ran the opening round on June 7th, 2023. He came out with and lit the track on fire. Cole Beck ran a time of 9.97+1.3 wind to
break his own school record! He now was on the the NCAA Finals Rounds as one of the fastest 8 sprinters in America! On June 8th he ran
what could be the last race of his track career. Cole Beck ran a lightning fast time of 10.05 +1.8 despite not having his normal explosive
start. Cole Beck now has the three fastest 100 Meters Times of any VIrginia Tech Hokie Sprinter of All Time!

Cole Beck announced shortly after the race that he was going to go back to football to prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft!.

Cole Beck 9.97 and 20.47! :number_one:

Cole Beck is as one of only three men in the Nation to clock a sub-9.90 this season (9.87). He is also the first Hokie in program history to break the 10-second barrier! Beck broke his own school record of 10.05 which he set a few weeks ago.

SInce he has chosen to play football for now here is a picture of Cole Beck on the Football Team. He has played running back, wide receiver and a kickoff/punt returner but they haven't played him much in college. I wonder why a team would ignore a weapon like Cole Beck?

Thank you White Lightning!!! This thread is fantastic and full of great info. I had no idea he was knocking on the sub 10 doorstep for a while now before he finally got a wind legal one. Great development over the last few years.

Question regarding his legs being huge and muscular. Is this obviously more beneficial and should Boling be on a similar leg workout to improve explosive muscle?

Thanks Freethinker. I have a passion for track and field especially with the sprints since I was a kid. I love to both sprint and watch others
sprint and I've also always had an obsession with jumping and watching others that could jump.

As for being muscular, Boling has enough muscle. If fact too much muscle can slow you down alot of the time. Somewhere in the middle
and what I like to call medium muscle, not body builder muscle. Yes sprinters are ripped and shredded like a swimmer or body builder but low body fat and lean, tight muscles are the best for sprinting and jumping in my honest opinion. Look at a guy like Italian Sprinter Filippo Tortu, he went 9.99 wind legal several years ago when he was alot skinnier or medium muscle. Since he now looks like a professional arm wrestler, he has slowned down alot over both the 100 & 200 meters. Boling needs more plyometrics and speed work. He is a natural born runner with more talent than either of these guys but hasn't got the right sprints coaching in my honest assesesment. He needs a new coach.

Back to Cole Beck. If the NFL were to draft him and he played somewhere he would blow away any other player in the league speed wise. Like was said in a video above he may just break the all time 40 nfl record which is a 4.22! He is capable but the league may mess with the timing as we know how they love to round up the times with our guys. In a 100 meters race no one in the nfl could beat Cole Beck. Not one player!

Thanks for the explanation. I consider you a top expert on the subject. Hopefully Boling improves once he goes pro and gets a real coach. As for Beck, VT would be fools to not utilize him this year so hopefully he has a breakout and then at least gets a combine invite to break the 40 record.

Most sprinters up to 400m have a high level of fast twitch muscles that can be labeled as tight muscles, many sprinters have to work constantly of "loosening up" these muscles via massage, stretching etc etc...as to prevent tears, pulls and actual rips in the muscles... Being too heavily muscled is in my opinion a hinderance especially for 200-400m distances. Beck has big legs and upper torso from hitting the weights for bulk for football. This is why he is not an overly good 200m sprinter...

Sort of a shame he was converted to WR rather than his natural position of running back.

But given his elite track numbers, WR is a heckuva lot safer for him.

He should make an amazing return specialist at the least.

But in reality, he should get the Tyreek Hill treatment and be sent on fly routes where his speed takes over (and how Andy Isabella should be as well).

Beck has a 4.29, 40 yard dash on his resume. I wonder if he is any faster now that he has given more attention to track.

So he managed that much athletic skill while achieving an undergraduate and MS in engineering at V Tech (a solid state school engineering program). That’s pretty damn impressive.
