This may seem too obscure but anytime I see big time speed in a major sport I can't ignore it . National Showcase and East Coast pro are the two premiere high school baseball scouting events.Hell I want to hold onto this kind of stuff for dear life--it is called desperation folks. And Brannen should show up in next year's draft--first round would be nice. Anyway going into the East Coast Pro baseball camp the fastest player in the class seemed to be down to two outfielders. One is black one is white--you can tell by the names. Quentin Holmes was the fastest player at the Perfect Game National Showcase this past June edging out Brannen 6.15 to 6.18. Those times are inflated by the way whereas the East Coast is more in line with real times. Alas Holmes who everyone has been drooling about as folks do when they describe a fast black athlete got smoked by Brannen who ran the fastest 60 at East Coast in 6.43 seconds . Holmes ran a 6.59. Should mention Brannen had the fastest 10 yard split at the National Showcase so putting everything together Brannen is the FASTEST 2017 High School baseball player!!!!
Third fastest at East Coast was Canadian infielder Adam Hall at 6.46. Hall ran extremely fast at the National too running a 6.29 60.
Of course the devil is always in the details and through the recent years blisteringly fast white baseball prospects rarely make it to the big leagues usually due to hitting woes but with Trea Turner making some early noise with the Nationals hell I can dream can't I?
